They're not, not even this one. Grass is SE vs Water, NVE vs Fire and resists itself, as does Fire and Water, acting SE vs one, NVE vs another and resisting itself. They deliberately avoided making another triangle to act exactly as GFW, to keep GFW as the educational core to kid players.

The triangle doesn't work. Like I said, Game Freak DELIBERATELY avoided making another triangle that works exactly like GFW.

Does it really matter that none of them resists themselves? At least they're equal to eah other on that front. Would've been problematic if say, Rock resisted itself, but not Flying and Fighting.

Case in point: it doesn't matter that they don't resists themselves + gives them a unique attribute that Grass-Fire-Water doesn't have.

Yes, because that's why the GFW triangle is a triangle - an interaction between each three parts equally.. There's no replacement triangle because there's nothing that's SE vs one, NVE vs another and resists itself in a type triangle.

At that point you’re just nitpicking though, because the fact those types resist themselves is secondary to the fact that they have a rock/paper/scissors dynamic. In fact, FRF is still a perfectly balanced triangle because they all share the same relation with themselves (neutrality) unlike other type triangles.

The real reason we “won’t get it” is bc it’s easier to colour code GFW and they’re all neutral to Normal, which the beginning of the game revolves around. Rock and Fighting would necessitate a lot more coverage for early game Pokémon to provide anything close to a challenge.

Crobat - speed demon

I feel like it’s really interesting having starters that are so different from one another. Especially since their evolution methods are all completely different (use attack x times, trade evolution (although it would ideally just be using an item), friendship evolution). This is a very interesting thought experiment.

No, because this was Tajiri's choice. He set the concept and signed off on the choices. And he declined to make a similar triangle, thus no triangle can replace the GFW triangle, which is what you're looking to replace. For someone so autistic, you should understand this.

It's not 1:1 with Grass/Fire/Water, but it's still considered a "perfect triangle" because all the relations between the types are still equal with each other.
Even if you want to consider Grass/Fire/Water the sole "perfect triangle" Flying/Rock/Fighting is still a valid triangle because, again, relations between types are still equal with each other.

Yeah dickhead, there's three types in the GFW triangle and they act SE, NVE and resisting all three respectively. Any three other types arranged in a triangle will not work, as no type can fulfil all parts of the interaction triangle.

to be fair, legends arceus made it so that all of the starters evolve at level 16 and 36 even if they previously didn't before, so they COULD change it if they really wanted to

But it does. That's the whole point of the starter triangle and getting kids thinking of using the best counter to what they see. Your insistence it's irrelevant when talking about GFW is the issue because while there are other types that work in a SE loop (but only one truly, Fight/Psy/Dark is an interation triangle, but only one way due to Dark immunity). But as a starter triangle, it needs to behave like the current one,. not just be a half-arse because baba wunt a different starter archetype.

i think ur way overrating it g pokemon is more than rps. plus like pokemon legends is a spinoff series so it's not even bound to the formula, there's precedent for breaking it with the gamecube games. i don't think anyone would shit their pants and die if they put some weirdos as the starters for plza (even though they're obviously not going to when the last one worked so well)

The GFW triangle is considered a triangle because it's about how one angle of the triangle interacts with the other two. It is still 3 pokemon types interacting with each other. That forms a triangle. In a standard playthrough of a pokemon game there only 3 starters and once you choose one your rival will either choose the one that is SE against you or weak to yours. There are only 3 meaning its not really relevant if your type resists itself, at least in the context of completing the triangle. Resisting oneself isn't the final angle of the triangle. Each pokemon doesn't have an individual triangle including themselves. The 3 pokemon together MAKE one full triangle.

Not how mtg does it. Their pentagon uses a color symmetry and doesn't translate well. However you could do it like this, though I don't recommend a type square because you'd need 4 types that are super effective against a weakness of theirs
