There is literally no grind in this game, you can disable EVs, choose your Natures and there is a NPC in the Pokecenter that instantly brings a Pokemon to the level cap, just admit you never played it

The only thing that makes me shudder whenever I replay RR (as a completionist mind you), are the Post-Game gauntlets, but those are optionsl and pretty fun regardless. RR is an amazing romhack.

You're in for a puzzle game. Each Gym isn't so much an actual challenge as it is figuring out what specific team you need to win. Once you figure that out, it's a cakewalk. Misty has protean greninja btw.

Omgon boss rush simulator. Game could be completely cheesed with Kings Shield for single battles and Wide Guard for double battles so they nerfed those moves. You can still completely cheese the game with a Sticky Webs setter.

It's a spreadsheet simulator + wikiwalk simulator masquerading as a Pokemon game. Do you like theorycrafting a bunch of comp teams that you only use once or twice? Do you like combing through wiki pages/documentation and running showdown calcs to figure out exactly how you need to prepare for every other trainer fight in the game? Because that's basically the Radical Red experience. 95% thinking about playing Pokemon, 5% actual gameplay.

I don't know what you are on, it's more of a puzzle game. Have a couple suicide runs & get your ass whopped, learn the enemy set/strat and adjust accordingly. Most extreme case scenario of this in my experience was when clair had a lead Aerodactyl with stealth rock, which I adjusted to have a lead taunt prankster grimm. This was an old version though, not sure how much sweaty it became

Why would you even play radical reddit? There's 6 instances in the mainline games where you have to go through Kanto already and all Radical Red has over it is more Pokémon. It makes more sense to play something in a new map or some gimmick stuff like Emerald Rogue.

Its okay. Poorly made but thats most rom hacks. The middle game, where you fight through the Rockets Game Corner, is where it went downhill for me. Its like 5 back to back boss fights with a 3 level cap increase and no new zones unlocked so its very boggy and boring to get through. Really took the wind out and made me put it down for a while before I picked it back up again.

In theory: an expansive ROMhack that blends the rich team building, difficulty and wide mon rosters of modern Pokemon endgames/the Stadium style games with the progression of FireRed’s main campaign + the islands, in addition to jamming in every gimmick from the series while rebalancing many mons to have better movesets or stats
In practice: puzzle gym leader battles and increasingly unfair enemy advantages (predominately legendary teams with primal/mega/gmax on top by Elite 4)
I can’t remember if it was just hardcore mode that was completely exhausting but regardless of mode the late game battles become an exercise in patience that makes grinding look fun in comparison. If you can beat Misty on normal without any frustration you should be fine
