>>56033916Doesn't mean you can't still have outliers, even by Gen 2 when most Pokemon had finished artwork already produced you still had some sprites that had design oddities or early elements present that weren't corrected until the international release or Crystal, like Slowpoke's belly, Feraligatr's colours or Donphan's trunk's underside (though maybe Gatr's colours are a result of the old Pokemon's palette, like Sneasel's). These sorts of design discrepencies would decrease so I'm not surprised Gen 3 only has a few, but it did take a while for Salamence to get it's proper colours and Nosepass was a less bulky. The texture of it's rocky body changes noticeably from the gen 3 to gen 4 sprite. I remember being confused as to why it was such a chonkster when I saw it in the anime for the first time as the game gave the impression of quite a slender, more cylindrically-shaped mon.
I like this sort of thing though, gives them a unique appearence you can only appreciate in the older games. 'Cept Banette. I love the bastard but fucking hell it looks like a nightmare given form in Gen 3, seeing it in Colosseum was a very perculiar experience.
