The fact that the only defense for this design is "B-BUT IT LOOKS LIKE LE ANIMAL I CAN CLAP AT KNOWING WHAT ANIMAL IT'S BASED ON" is what makes it an objectively bad POCKET MONSTER design.

Why shouldn't it be? Most critters walk on all fours. It's more stable, requires less brain usage to avoid falling over, usually results in less injury when falling over, and gives fewer back problems. Standing on two legs is only worth it when the animal makes significant use of its hands/forefeet.
