This rubbed me the wrong way from the start. It felt non-genuine. And there's a chance I'm just seeing something that isn't there, but the feeling I get is that Gamefreak thought this would be funny enough and over the top enough for it to reach meme status or something. I wasn't that keen on his name either at first but it's grown on me. I like that it references the Pecha berry specifically, and runt makes for a fitting description as something small and young and weaker than you'd expect, maybe even something you can feel some sympathy towards. His best name still is the german one though, Infamomo. I can't get over how perfect that is. Should've been his name across regions.

It reminded me a lot of End of Evangelion. Top tier for sure.
Pecharunt was dumb but at least it has character. It felt like an absurd mashup of Night of the Living Dead and Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
