To say my childhood was rife with RBY pokemania™ is putting it mildly, memories of dragging my father to the first movie so I could get a pikachu card and to the 2000 movie and i must have even dragged him to that third movie because fuck does that entei card look familiar.
I loved the idea of having a gameboy or gameboy color as a kid, because I never got to actually own one, and my spoiled ass didn't appreciate that at least I had an n64 but the fact that pokemon didn't gain levels in Stadium didn't mesh with me to the point that I would have pretend EXP gained from doing battles with pkmn repetitively, then "evolving" them into the next form.
I remember seeing someone with a gameboy in a dentists office and listening to it, thinking GOD I could be leveling a pidgey! My parents at the time simply said we couldn't afford it, which was true. I borrowed a friends gameboy and blue and was convinced that water gun beat everything. This was true until Lt Surge. Then I had to give it back. Then another time I borrowed my cousins gbc and blue, and never deduced you could BUY pokeballs so I thought the one you found in Viridian forest was the only one in the entire game. Squirtle and caterpie, my entire team until I had to eventually give it back again.
