I wrote a fanfic in Elementary school about Ash visiting an island made of chocolate and Lickitung were enjoying the chocolate but then a Moltres swooped by and melted the chocolate and Ash had to go home.

I dunno who the fuck this is but they're right. There are ones that are good but most of them are balanced like shit or written like shit, and there are far too many fangames that have some rambling bullshit about how "I grew up but pokemon never did". There are SOME fangames that I would say are equal or better experiences than mainline but it is a very low number.
t. Has sit through far too many fangames with gigantic exposition dumps with precisely zero information of interest and no characters do anything so you're just staring at basically a static fucking scene. You cannot make a game that displays two sentences worth of text at a time AT BEST and then try and tell some convoluted story through it.

As much as I hate the idea of fans going all "the Pokedex is FAKE because there's no way superpowered cartoon animals can do superpowered cartoon animal things!" or "shrinking isn't real and the people who tell it straight to your face MISSAW the whole thing!", the bar for Pokemon games is pretty low these days, so yes, plenty of fangames are worth playing compared to the scrap GF pukes.
