the human character designs have become too abstract and don't feel like real people anymore
pic rel is the person who designs modern pokemon characters and I hate her style so much

If you told me this dude wasn't just a character of the week and he was actually a Gym Leader, I probably wouldn't believe you. There's being subtle then there's being generic NPC-tier. At least the ORAS redesign makes him still look like a surfer in more fitting sporting equipment. This is more of a casual beach bum look.

There's still plenty of normal-looking characters. Team Star are the most stand-out weirdos but that's because they're really just wearing costumes.

Gen 3 has the most boring human designs in the franchise, neither simple like Gens 1 and 2 or creative like 4 onwards.
Not to mention the artstyle sits in this awkward place where it's neither watercolor nor fully digital. It's just a rough transitioning point

this has been a trend in most games now
the newer batch of artists in the gaming industry are all addicted to overdesigning characters with the features they like
you should see how bad the character designs in gacha games are
japanese games are also following this trend
even some of the armor sets in tears of the kingdom look a bit overdesigned

Yeah she needs to not be in Gen 10, her designs don't fit Pokemon, also, the weird shaped eyes and pupils and the oversized fee and hair with weird colored highlights that don't fit at all, it look so fucking stupid.

It's gradual.
First signs were in Gen 4, DPPt for hair, HGSS for the outfits when compared to GSC, but otherwise, not bad on either.
It increased every gen onwards with Gen 5 having a some shifts and Gen 9's art style being a breaking point, maybe even sooner, around Gen 7 or 8 if >>56062569 is any indication.
