I love Zelda, but it's always had to skirt the line between "kiddyshit easy" and "adult gamer hard" because it started off in an era where kids didn't have their own personal games units and mammy and daddy had to be sold on the unit as much as the kids, to draw sales. Pokémon never had to do that, adults by and large had dropped the gameboy as the playstation had heralded the start of the 32bit era. Oh they tried out Gen 1, yeah. But the drop from 1 to 2 then from 2 to 3 (because Nintendo decided to sell a portable SNES in 2001) shows their success wasn't due to a swathe of adults champing at the bit for a new game.
