3 Type System

No.56080055 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
What d'you guys think of this "3rd Type" idea I came up with. I think this is a reasonable way to do it.

For most Pokemon:
>3rd Types are called Hidden Types. All Pokemon (yes all of them) have one.
>Hidden Types are basically the equivalent of recessive genes.
>they simply grant Pokemon a 10% boost in damage, and 10% resistance to moves of that Type. Hidden Types also determine your Hidden Power.
>HTs DO NOT otherwise affect the Type chart. This is important. It's just a mini-STAB boost and very slight resist to that Type, that's it.
>The default Hidden Type for 90% of Pokemon species is, of course, Normal Type. (Which means the 10% boost/resistance will cancel each other out in most situations).
>After being caught, an NPC can change your HT to become any Type you want it to be (with the exception that you can't make your Hidden Type the same as a Type that Pokemon already has. [Normal Types are the exception to that exception.])
>You can also breed regionals this way. Breed 2 Vulpix with Ice as a Hidden Type, and you'll get an Alolan one.

So you'll notice by now, that this system is fairly.....lame. Well that's the point, Hidden Types are NOT supposed to matter very much for the majority of Pokemon. Where it gets interesting is.....

For specific Pokemon:
>Some Pokemon species have a Type other than Normal as their default Hidden Type. This specific kind of HT is called a Vestigial Type.
>Vestigial Types grant a bigger 1.25x boost and a 1/8th resistance to moves of that Type.
>A Pokemon with a Vestigial Type essentially is saying that the Pokemon "basically is" that Type. Examples: Gyarados Dragon, Flygon Bug, Malamar Water, Decidueye Flying, Drapion Bug, Rotom appliance forms Ghost, Yanmega Dragon, Gen 8 fossils Rock, Latios/as Flying, Cradily Water.....You get the idea

That's about all I got. Clearly they can't ACTUALLY give Pokemon 3 Types, but they could essentially do something similar by giving certain Pokemon pseudo-STAB on a 3rd Type.
