However a Pokémon doesnt have to be evil to be dark, like how Pokemon didn’t have to be a fish to be a water type or constantly on fire to be a fire type. Dark, like all types, is an umbrella and includes many concepts that would be considered “bad” like cheating, stealing, cheap tricks, brutality, fear, dark triad personality traits, bad luck, etc. Absol in particular is Dark because it controls “negative energy”. One anon explained it in great detail (I don’t think they uses the term “negative energy” exactly but I don’t remember the exact word)
but to summarize there’s a belief in Japan that “negative energy” can make bad things like disasters happen, absol can sense that energy that’s why it’s a dark type.
