Do losses still result in blackouts in general? I played the SV DLC the other day and went to Blueberry Academy right away. Naturally Lacey's lvl 70 team beat my ass but the game let me continue afterwards anyway.

Most of the time yes but there's a few battle you can lose. It's an exception, though. You cannot lose the final battle against Kieran for example.

I know AZ in XY is a fight you are allowed to lose and so is the first Lusamine fight in SM.

Idk what her plot about being weak was all about, didn't she's get all eight badges and ended up with one of the highest level teams in bw1? That sounds pretty strong to me. Letting Bianca win would have been a nice option in the game, I think

Pretty sure you can lose to every Hau in Gen 7, and of course the first rival battle in Gen 1 can go either way

It's not really about her being weak, it's about her deciding that battling isn't really what she wants to do. It's about finding herself, it becomes really blatant at the midpoint of the game and just progresses from there. It's not lot Hop's out of nowhere motivation switch or anything.

SV might have the most "losable" battles in the series, but don't quote me on that. You can lose a lot of battles against your "rivals".
I recently found out that you can lose the first battle against Arven at the beginning of the game and he says this. I'm really surprised by how harsh this is. Imagine hearing this if you're a little kid playing Pokémon for the first time, kek.

What game was it where the game just crashes if you actually lose to one of the battles? I think it was the scripted wild pokemon at the start of RSE.

I wouldn't be surprised if something like that ever happened again.
