Imagine: you are the MC (obviously) and your Reburst Gem works like Cross Fusion. You don't have a Pokémon, so is kingld of a humanoid ayy lmao body, but you can use moves. Even add elements.
The first game could be a test: just 4 elements, and while you play you find gems that give you STAB affinity to some moves. It could also works against you, so you don't build the ultimate Smogon wet dream (say you are fire; your water moves will do 0.5 damage).
ReBurst HAD potential, and I feel it could've worked if they put more Pokémon into the spotlight. Also, make the Legendary Reburst be something like "he worked so hard for this, so now you are worthy to hold this power!"
