That game has to save at least map data, inventory, player stats and some other miscellaneous variables and as far as I can tell it saves instantly upon pressing the button.

Gen 2 might still retain captured Pokémon HP and statuses from the battle which would add data, but later gens stop doing that which would free up data if we just did that here. Things like gender and shiny status are determined by DVs in Gen 2, so it would be fairly compact.
