Platinumqol is unironically a better "remake".
You get faster HP bars, version exclusives, infinite TMs, no need to learn HMs exactly like BDSP but it's also Platinum so it doesn't suck.

even then there is a QoL + fairy type hack of plat, so if you don't care about it being 'legit' plat is still the better option

Same, I'm playing the normal version right now. Made it after Crasher Wake, I forgot there is a sudden level spike here and had nothing to deal with water types somehow, but it was fun because I had to come up with a strategy involving Toxic, Sleep/Dream Eater and Pain Split

I went to the route you are talking about after the rival fight reminded me of the spike but Floatzel still ended up 7 levels above everything.
Feels like it would have been really easy if I just caught a nearby Roselia and evolved it since dealing with Gyarados wasn't my main issue, next run I'm definitely doing this + Probopass for Fantina, otherwise these two fights become a little too luck-based for my taste.

I was using a Roserade but it didn't really help at all because Gyarados takes neutral damage and Floatzel runs Ice Fang. It was still my key to beating Gyarados but only with some luck. I think what you want for this fight is Magneton/zone and everything else is a crapshoot.

Eh yeah. I think if you want an elec type it's just good ol' Luxio.
Roserade is still a great idea because you get easy STAB+quad on Quagsire and save your team for Floatzel, and as long Roserade doesn't die in a single hit then Roserade delivers a SE hit or a status.
Since it's Platinumqol I got my free Spiritomb and went for Hypnosis+Dream Eater while equipping Quick Claw to make my odds a little more favorable. The toxic was used to deal with Gyarados and Quagsire instead, Pain split helps staying alive for the hyper potion turn.

I was also playing Platinumqol, this is so cool.
My Roserade was so underlevelled that it did die in a single hit but presumably you aren't usually as bad off if you don't forget large portions of the map. I forgot how I actually beat it at this point. I had an Eevee and if I had spot evolved it into Jolteon it could've made the fight a lot easier, but I didn't plan to use a Jolteon so I held back from it.

one nice thing about platinumqol is you can catch Murkrow and Misdreavus which almost trivialize Fantina. but they never should have been stuck as exclusives to DP

I intended Glaceon but decided against it because of its low speed and poor moveset. Cynthia went a lot better than expected all things considered, I switched Magmortar into a Dragon Rush, which triggered Flame Body on Garchomp. Felt like a pro.
I had Murkrow as a full team member, it was nice but its learnset is pretty bad. It's also annoying that at one point in the game, Galactic Grunt Murkrows were outspeeding my Honchkrow because it inexplicably becomes far slower upon evolution.

I will say that's a lot of "alternate" team options in DPPt and below.
If there is one thing I can concede to the 3D games, is that all the railroading moved away from your teambuilding options. Not needing HMs + infinite TMs + fixing a good half of garbage movesets certainly encourages the players to use whatever they want and not be penalized for skipping on things like Starly, Budew and Shinx.

imo Pokémon usability was figured out in BW1. Virtually every Pokémon encounterable in that game is usable in a regular playthrough and not handicapped by poverty learnsets or the likes.
Also just dropping my opinion that Gen 2 is the worst of the classic games for this issue alone

Not really. Unova has issues concerning evolution requirements and still some shitty movesets. I will say that it's infinitely better purely because of the TM thing but not quite there yet.
BW2 gets the closest due to the sheer volume of team options, but you still suffer a lot of old moveset jank which wasn't properly fixed until the next game.

Like what? Rufflet/Vullaby/Deino lines aren't really meant to be usable in a playthrough and I think that's fine. What else is unusable?

Well I don't. Out of the top of my mind there is also Mienfoo, a two-stage mon with a LV.50 evolution making it worthless for most of the game. What the fuck were they thinking? I can tolerate it for the pseudo because it was a thing every since the very first game, but that's just bullshit for pretty regular mons.

Everything still has reasonable learnsets and a casual player is unlikely to build a team that just doesn't work like what is a real risk in previous games

BW misses the mark for me personally. the early game availability is really bad, which is a shame given how many mons are locked towards the end of the game and post game. but up until around the kid point you are just super limited in choices. it was alright the first time through when there was still the novelty of them being new, but it hasn't aged well. BW2 is a lot better imo as said before.
Gen 2 is definitely the worst distribution, but, I will say it's a lot better if you are not autistic and don't limit yourself to Johto mons. there's a lot of Kanto mons that shine more in Johto than in Kanto but people overlook that.

Yeah, every Switch Pokemon game is extremely easy, unless you install mods to increase difficulty.

Luckily there are some very good mods for BDSP, since it was made in Unity.

This, I actually agree. Legacy totally saves the gameplay part of the game for me, I just don't like the fanfic story changes, but at least they're not all-encompassing. I wish every Pokémon game I played had a Pokédex like that now

Got it. Always thought you could just throw mons into Home with PKHeX directly since I heard about people suggesting that, but I guess they were using a game to transfer instead. Works either way for me, I shall install Home later on so I can keep all the replay teams in one place.

HGSS doesn't do nearly enough to salvage the game. One big problem I have with it is that it tries to keep enemy movesets similar to the originals, so for example Karen's Gengar only has Lick for a STAB move. Idk man

I might grind individual mons a little bit but never my whole team. I want to control my levels to remain on track with the enemies, so held item Exp. Share is good for me but Exp. All is terrible, especially because it removes the held one.

If you don't care about the cloud features of Home and Pokemon GO support, it might be better for you to just store all of your Pokemon in PKSM. It's only on 3DS right now but future versions will be on the Switch.

1 EXP share to train your new catch? Should be still given for free imo but only one
2-3 EXP share to not feel underlevelled? Fine, but you pay up and learn to survive without buying 30 revives and 99 Hyper Potions.
4-5 for babies? Ok but you better believe you will grind on the local rich trainer first.

I remember DP has worse Cyrus and especially Cynthia, however harder Fantina with the only saving grace being not fighting her as the third gym.

Not sure but they're certainly harder than BDSP with forced Exp. All and affection.
DP has a much worse regional dex than Plat so that could result in a de facto harder experience even if the enemies are worse.

My DS had Pearl, allowing me to get my own Mismagius, honestly a very strong mon that feels cheesy for singleplayer, more so than a legendary at times

In the other thread we observed that Murkrow makes Fantina much easier but Fantina is mid-game and thus less of a problem in DP to begin with, so the relative impact of Murkrow would be reduced. It's difficult to quantify this in an objective way, more research is needed.

They’re bad games, but I can understand why people could prefer them over SWSH and SV (also bad games).

I’ve had some fun in BDSP getting the Tower Master ribbon on dexited Gen 1-2 pokemon. The masters singles format is genuinely the worst I’ve experienced, but the masters doubles format can be enjoyable.
