because people wanted to use the new pokemon and were frustrated by their rarity (not to the point of people hating the game, but enough for Game Freak to notice, hence why Gen 3 was a soft reboot). And anyway the Odd Egg has Pichu as a chose.

the “people were mad at le old pokemon not being in the game!” is a massive deflection from the actual issues people complained about with gen 5 which were the game being stagnated and handholdy as fuck.

Pretty much, and the people who complained about the lack of old Pokemon were complaining about NONE of them being available. Nobody complained specifically about Pikachu.

It's also different than Johto because when gen 5 came out people had attachment to oldmons. That wasn't there yet for Johto. And the idea of there being MORE than 150 Pokemon was what everybody wanted. Look at everyone marking out for Ho-Oh, Togepi, Donphan, Pikablu etc. By gen 5 it was expected that there would be new Pokemon so it wasn't as exciting.

The few good gen 2 pokemon are locked behind beating most of the gyms. Playing a game like that is an absolute chore It's so much worse than the Kanto games that were already not good.

You could get old pokemon via dream world back in the day, anyone who complains about lack of old pokemon is a friendless zoomer, sorry it had to be said. There wasn't any restrictions on trading either, you could get your epic charmander by trading with someone who already finished the game or GTS if you're that alone.
