Let's say they development the game to the point where it would be normally time to be announced but instead they shifted gears to program all the Pokémon in before announcing it. All development before and after is the same. How much extra time do you honestly think is added?

Pokémon are tied to real world monetary value through things like Bank subscriptions, the Pokémon dream Radar, the Jirachi Bonus disc, etc. Ergo being able to use all the Pokémon makes a game objectively more valuable.

If it was going to happen, it should have been early and a hard cut, with as little overlap as possible. As it is, they're stuck either making infinite remakes as if it wouldn't triple their profits or borderline reconning entire parts of the game. I probably didn't think about it as a kid, but I would have preferred each region being unique.

Thing is, there was a proto dexit during the change in hardware from gen 2 to gen 3 but people bitched so hard that GF had to shit out a gen 1 remake to compromise and immediately went back to allowing transfers

Every difference is meaningful. Mainline Pokémon games are built around all the Pokémon functioning within the same system. Fludd has a whole physics engine that the game is based around. Also transfer exists for Pokémon games. Mario Sunshine doesn't commute with anything else.

Not exactly, for example back when RS released, there were e-Reader cards with trainer battles using Pokemon that not only couldn't be caught in the game without hacking, but couldn't be obtained from other games that could connect to it because those games didn't exist yet. It's an interesting exception that only works because they programmed those Pokemon in (although with how the e-Reader was it's entirely possible they wouldn't have had to if they programmed it a slightly different way).

The games have been going downhill for ages. And took a sharper downhill turn around Gen 6. The content cut with no real replacement for said content was just the final straw that broke the camels back. I still haven't bought a single game for the switch and refuse to until the games either bring back the old content or bring up new content that's an actual worthwhile replacement.
