I actually tried doing it in FRLG times since I happened to have both and I traded myself a Pokemon with Cut. I didn't have my hopes up though, so I wasn't that disappointed when I found the Lava Cookie, but still better than nothing I guess.
I think I also tried it later on Blue or Yellow for the sake of it, knowing it wouldn't work.
