>>56144414>Those single still frames are part of the animationsBut unlike the idle animations, where you can usually gauge what a Pokemon is like just from a single frame, the entire attack is a lot more than just that. Azumaril looks like a fucking retard in the frame you chose, and the attack frame that Blaziken is doing looks almost identical to the idle pose, they're exceptionally bad examples.
>Good animations.Alright, on a backend level how does that apply to the DS? Actually, let me be generous, how do 3D animation techniques transfer to making good 2D animations? We talking going back to pre-rendered graphics? That would probably look a little awkward, honestly, but maybe a rotoscoped look could work. That's only if they want to make extra work for themselves though, as getting the models up and running means that they might as well use them in a game.
>>56144447I think it's unfair to compare games on significantly different hardware, they're all operating under different restrictions. You wouldn't say a GameBoy game is lazy for not including color or 3D in the base game. And yet shit like Space Invaders exists, so even then there's weird outlier titles. With the GBA maybe it's more valid since shit like Banjo Kazooie Grunty's Revenge and The Legend of Zelda Minish Cap use 3D for various hitboxes and that weird Asterix and Obelix did it, but even up to the original DS 3D kind of looked like complete ass on those tiny screens.
