I really enjoy this part in Platinum where you venture through Route 210 and Celestic Town for the first time. Not only because of the physical layout itself but also because of what it represents narratively. At this point in the game you've just defeated Crasher Wake, essentially entering the mid-to-late game and securing more freedom in teambuilding options and exploration. And now you've been tasked by the champion herself to traverse this jagged, arduous terrain that isn't suited for uninitiated newbies. It gives off the impression that you, the player, have progressed from a small-time contender for the league to a skilled trainer who's willing to take on any challenge. And the area itself is loads of fun to explore, although you do need to have several HMs handy in order to do so to the fullest extent. I can understand why the majority of people dislike this design choice, but I actually don't have a problem with the metric fuck ton of HM-reliance in these routes. If you ask me, it makes these areas feel grounded in reality. Like, you're travelling through a hardy mountain range that is cut off from any decently-populated settlement in the region, why the hell should it be easy and convenient? Where's the fun in that? And coinciding with its sheer ruggedness, there is a full-on gauntlet of tough trainers to be found on Route 210. That's right, if you want to access this out-there town nestled between the peaks of Mt. Coronet, you have to really work for it. Once you finally reach Celestic, you're met with an unexpected run-in with the boss of Team Galactic himself, where you then have an atmospheric battle with him within the confines of the Celestic Ruins. This marks the point in the game where the threat of Team Galactic really comes to the forefront. After sorting out this whole fiasco, you're rewarded with the highly-coveted and downright OP Surf HM, as well as some much-needed downtime.
