Where this relates back to 4chan is that, in a fundamental sense, low-functioning tards still need to be AWARE that something exists in order to parasitically latch onto it, and it’s even better (for them) to have some kind of actual hands-on experience with the franchise, even if it’s as simple as haphazardly playing one of the games just by sheer coincidence of being acquired in childhood. Once they’re aware of it (and have unsupervised and unlimited internet access to use as an infinite stimulus chamber), they’ll immediately try to find wherever they can tard out about the series, and /vp/ ends up stockpiling on all these real-world cartoon characters because of the fact that it happened to get an entire board to itself, as opposed to sporadic threads on /v/ or any other board.
Basically, it’s like bronyfags on crack. Another good way to extrapolate all of this is to notice how on 4chan, the best threads tend to center around obscure media that won’t attract a fuckload of retarded apes by virtue of the aforementioned lack of “exposure”.
