I feel like the only reason it didn't come back on the 3DS is some hardware limitation making it a pain in the ass to implement, because they went right back to it on the Switch. This isn't even mentioning other recent games that do it like Xenoblade 3 (after people bitched for years that the original Xenoblade had an even worse problem with replacing songs with another based on the state of battle), or games that historically took great advantage of it like the N46 Banjo games. TLDR; you're retarded.

They brought it back at least for the Gym theme in SwSh, and it makes it my favorite song in that game probably.
I think it's also in Gen 9 in the Gym/Elite 4 (or whatever it's called, I didn't play SV lol)

Other than that, theonly other instance of dynamic music I can remember is in SV where the overworld theme is different when riding your -raidon or not. Anyone remembers any other instances? Share!

To be fair, RSE has the schizo mechanic that is cries on the overworld, which ORAS later folded into the DexNav mechanic, so they were clearly experimenting with that sort of thing way early on.

With XB1 it's understandable to not like it because it works like this:
>boss fight starts, proper battle theme plays
>after a few auto attacks and weaker arts, eventually the boss goes for a move that triggers a vision
>if the player reacts as expected, the battle theme is then replaced permanently with the vision theme
While in BW you can just switch or heal to remove the low HP theme

There's a reason I said it was even worse. Although arguably the worst example is one cool theme starting in a cutscene, playing as a battle starts, then not looping and playing a usual battle theme for the rest of the battle while the cool theme never plays again. That's just wasteful if we're being honest. It's also not to say Xenoblade 3 is perfect, the Chain Attack theme is a song you'll be listening to over every other battle song, not to mention the fact that time resets to day whenever you fast travel means that the songs that take a long time to get good never get a chance to and night themes might as well not exist.

Low HP theme beats the beep beeps.
Although to be fair, Gen 5 isn't the one with my favorite battle music in the first place. Those would be Gen 1 and 3, but honorable mentions to the E4 and N's final theme.
