Alright everyone I have a question

When you played R/B/Y/FR/LG when you were young and you got the Poke flute in lavender town did you

A- Go down and wake up the snorlax on the fishing route that leads to route 13 in order to get to Fuchsia City

or

B- Go left to Celadon and wake up the Snorlax there and get to Fuchsia City via cycling road

Beacuase as a kid I swear I ALWAYS did the cycling road route yet seems everyone I have asked just went down from Lavender instead?

I always went down the lavender side, it's one of my favorite stretches of the game. and then I do cycling road for exp.

You're not alone OP, I did cycling road every time. In fact, most times I didn't even go down the other road, I'd just back track from Fuchsia to get Payday and maybe catch the other Snorlax.
I'm 32, so I'm talking Blue in the 90s here btw

Cycling route. I didn't even know there is path down to Levander on my first playthrough at that point and found it only after visiting Fuchsia city.

I think I went down the Lavender side first. It's closer to where they give the flute, I'd run into that Snorlax first when exploring from Vermilion, and I didn't know it was the long way to Fuscia.

As far as I can remember, it's always been Cycling Road.
That said, I started with GSC instead, so the knowledge that it's much faster to do that probably played a big part.

While A is the better option from a map design perspective, because there is actually map design, unfortunately neither are very good if you actually fight the trainers.At that point in the game you start fighting a ton of really samey trainers because the developers were both afraid of using several Pokemon and also they cut like 40 of them so their pool is even more limited. It's an unfortunate issue with Gen 1 that is resolved by just not doing it because it's basically all optional. Silph Co. has a similar problem and solution.
