I want to ask this again because I still dont know if I'm just missing something, am I meant to be able to give Zygarde 10% power construct? Capsules dont work but apparently thats how it's supposed to be officially, debug doesnt work because it will force it back to aura break the second I reload which doesnt happen with other pokemon, and the gather cube has no option to change it. Hell, I gave myself a second zygarde as a test, came with Power Construct by default, reloaded, and it had Aura Break

No, that's the problem, it IS stopping me. I tried debug, it doesn't stick even after a save. I think something in the game is outright telling it to check any zygardes you have and force the ability to Aura Break upon loading the game or map

So, I discovered Fling can force feed berries to Pokemon both allied and opponent, what if you could create a berry that fully healed the target, but gave them a -1 or -2 stat drop on every stat and forbade them from switching, the berry would trigger when the Pokemon reached half health (doesn't really matter if it's thrown via Fling since it's automatically consumed), make an entire gauntlet with Contrary Pokemon abusing these berries either by themselves or by throwing them at opponents via Fling.

I fucking knew it, piss off Jan. If you dont want to balance around it fine, but give me literally one good reason I cant have it universe and I wouldnt be nearly as pissed. Just have the zygarde guy say something like "Stray cells in aevium are stranglely selfish and refuse to help actual Zygardes" and boom, done. Still annoying but I'd have a reason beyond "It's just not allowed"
If it ends up being too powerful I may switch off because its not like 10% has shit stats as is, but I need to at least see why Jan is so mindbroken over it

I normally would just go with normal Aevis but they ruined his sprite in v13.5, even gave him a dumb awkward face in the VS screen, I hate that they didn't even bother to add those small detail changes, if this was Reborn they would account for you using legacy sprites.

It's inconsistent about it, the train pass girl gets it right but anytime it would actually matter it just doesnt. One you missed seeing is the broadcast where you're called a little town hero, it still uses Aevis' portrait even if you use the legacy sprite, combining that with having no choice to use your actual name and have to tell them the name marianette gave you it just feels like someone else is taking all the credit

Not sure exactly how you'd go about coding it, but definitely sounds 'easy' to do if you're not retarded like me kek
You'd start with this in Battler, grab the Pokemon battler's stats in a hash and lower them all by 1, set some kind of flag so that for pbCanSwitch in Battle.rb you can just copy the code that they use there for things like Shadow Tag
You'd also have to make sure to adjust AI to actually know the berry exists, not sure what you'd do there

Thanks a ton for the tips, I'm still getting used to the more basic stuff like changing abilities, I tried creating a crest a while back and it was a disaster, I'm still brushing up on that guide I found too, I'll eventually try and learn how to change and add unique properties a bit better, I see a lot of numbers and variables and my mind just freezes up.

I was trying to make a few weak mons I like a bit better so I tried creating a Crest for Gourgeist that gave it an ability to heal from getting hit by Fire moves and Fire STAB, I'm just not good at handling code.

what you usually want to do 90% of the time you make a new crest is to just look at similar crests. that's pretty much the exact same thing as druddigon so you can copy the code 1:1 as so in the first two images. the third image actually makes the crest item, and the fourth links the crest to gourgeist specifically. might be some more issues with that but that should get you most of the way there

While Im talking about my team I wanna bring this up too, even though I have the dusknoir crest now I still dont think I want to evolve my dusclops. I heard about the eviolite thing a long time ago and finally putting it into practice I get it, if I want a ghost sweeper I have a gengar now even if that doesnt have the same high attack, to be honest I have too many physical attackers already. Since the scripts are available as .rb files, it's a lot easier than other games that hide that shit in the .dat files. Items look like they might be a bit tougher than making new moves though. While the stuff you might want from moves are mostly in one file, the effects from items are sprinkled all over at least a couple of them, maybe more. You'd also have to add the item to the PBS.

Only thing I didn't like much was waterrape's Mega, I still don't think Water/Poison makes any sense, also considering we're going to a canyon area and I think the other prominent leader in Arcanus is meant to be that shy dragon lady AND we just got access to the fossils at the end of chapter 6, Tyrantrum bros......maybe it's our time to shine?

I'm actually kind of underwhelmed by those changes, the fights just arent as memorable as going up against the overleveled boss mon
but the sunkern switch is right in front of all of those fights so its not an issue

I was thinking about giving them a +1 speed boost kek, along with maybe making arctozolt Electric/Water so it can still be fast and fuck up other water types trying to outspeed them. Put together with being slightly overleveled for post restoration (85), and that should be enough desu

I do want to implement the Rejuv boss system though, but that'll probably take a bit of time and a lot more fucking around in the scripts, because my first attempt didn't work at all kek

I think the worst part about PULSE2 is not even that it's hard, but that it makes it unfun to continue using midmons and shitmons, which was half the appeal of Reborn's balance. They clearly wanted to have an endgame level challenge, but didn't want to fine-tune the fights to feel organically difficult. Of course. It's just annoying, because Jan seems to think people are out to break his amazingly balanced game (Which he doesn't even add Pokemon fights to.) Sometimes you just want to use the Pokemon in a reasonable time given this is like a 100+ hour game. Pseudos like Metagross and Hydreigon are also annoying. These guys have historically been more UU and OU, you're probably using them cause they're cool. Too bad they're relegated to the VN part of the game where half the fights have you playing as someone else.
I'd argue that Meowstic-M, who gets access to like unlimited Prankster Utility, is better than half the lategame mons, and even then it's just really good, not broken. Nothing wrong with a Pokemon being competent.

I've said it before, but I just think the big issue is that thanks to Rejuv's design it is both too long and also too sparse on actual fights (I think we counted it out, but despite Ch15 being 15+ or something hours casually there's literally like 10 'real' fights that you actually need to win and have a halfway competent team) so you have the double issue of waiting forever to get good shit and then once you get the good shit it feels there's barely anything to use it on.

I'd be parroting Wagie here, but the real issue is that late game chapters barely have any actual gameplay, I loved some of the fights in Karma Files for instance and they're still fresh in my memory, the issue is that it's hours of shitty hallway simulators and cutscene after cutscene with nothing to do in between.
Reborn for as pozzed as it is and for all the issues it has like the mostly shit story is definitely one of the best fangames out there in terms of gameplay, it's really solid and I think most of us agree on that.

can't use sacred ash apparently, good prank lin by wagie's advice I got the zyguarde sweep in round one. lunala stopped dusk mane from using trick room and mawile was baited into using sucker punch on a weakened zyguarde who used dragon dance. mawile and something else were the last two pokemon at the end, got talonflame and typlosion out, had talonflame use upper hand to block sucker punch and eruption ended round 2.
entering round 3 I only had talonflame and typlosion left, so I went to use sacred ash and realized the very funny prank. I revived zyguarde and spammed dragon dance (with some healing) and got all the way to the penultimate pokemon, yvetal, that beat zygarde with sucker punch after being weakened. talonflame used acrobatics, then we got to cresselia that just used lunar dance so arceus would be double boosted. I didn't bring destiny bond with me, and sacred ash wasn't usable, so I revived lunala that could tank two judgements and basically cycled through until my team was fully revived, and when I saw arceus become fairy type I switched to zacian and used behomoth blade, which killed it. not really skillful with the amount of item spam and the zyguarde tip from wagie was really helpful, but fuck this stupid thing anyway. Thanks to everyone for their help and encouragement. the titania fight was harder kek

I think my problem with the gang arc is that you dont get access to them until you feel like you're already too strong to need them
If they were in the first couple wards where you're still trying to put a team together and are fresh off the train crash they would be more appealing

I wasn't expecting a lot from this game because so many games we've played have "taken inspiration" from it and are usually bad, including Rejuvenation. That's the only time I'll mention that game in this review because it doesn't deserve to be compared to Reborn. I honestly really enjoyed Reborn despite my difficulty getting through some of it's battles and questionable plot points. Most of the battles felt fair, and even the harder ones like the mansion gauntlet or glass works were clearly doable without items but I just didn't have the patience for it. The partners in some of the fights are really shit though, actively helping the opponents and just throwing in general, really bad. I like most of the characters, or at the very least would consider them not annoying, but the bad characters are so fucking bad. For fucks sake future cain is just cain but politician, how the fuck does that work? Also postgame Elias interactions are either really good or god awful, which is a shame because they really make him likable. The plot was eh, some good high points but some really low points, some very questionable parts like electrorape and everything to do with cain, ace, terra, and taka. Also postgame being handled by two good writers and 20 bad ones was pretty bad.The enviornments were good, except for the teleporting forest with it's gimmick, titania's forest when getting to her gym, and the shaymin new world stand out as being complete shit. I think my favorites are most of the new world areas, love the concept. A lot of fangames including some of the mainline games do the whole "I will reset the world in my image" thing but New World being a twist on it, an alternate new dimension bleeding into the main one, was neat. The pokemon selection was good, some weird restrictions but I've seen worse. Overall I'd honestly give this an 8.5, I can see myself replaying this again in a few months to do the anna route. No wonder everyone steals from it

I haven't, this was my first time and I would rather have more pokemon then not, and it changed the teams so I wouldn't be steamrolling old gen teams with new pokemon. It was still probably easier just because there were more options and some pokemon got better movesets with gen 9 but fuck it

and yeah, it is a good game overall despite its flaws. I've been bitching about a bunch of plot nonsense the last couple threads and I think those complaints are valid, but also its easy to cherry pick while playing through a massive fangame made by some autists as a passion project so at the end of the day its impressive
And the balance for the most part is good, I fucking hate some of the fields and fights but I never feel like I need to go out of my way to train up and entirely new team for just one fight, maybe just sub out some moves and add a ringer, which is the sweet spot of difficulty for me

I'm only about halfway (less actually I think) through allgen and its definitely easier than vanilla even just with a lot of the enemy team changes feeling weaker, aside from the new tools you get
but not enough to be a huge change overall

Personally I think there should be more ways to destroy and/or otherwise negate terrains but that's just me.
Unironically though it'd be nice to be able to shift/create the terrain yourself more than being able to force a terrain already active into a different one. Like, turning a 'no terrain' field into Caves or Mountians or those which are usually bound to certain physical locations.

Lin being a shit through the entire game was great, and ignoring the awful last minute backstory and focusing on the nice interactions after saving her she deserves that spot. Shelly earned her spot from having a good character arc that was satisfying to see, and then having it continue into postgame was fantastic. Julia gets there because she's julia. Radomus was annoying but I can't hate a father trying to keep his kids safe, it was written well enough to where he became endearing. Florina had a good arc that I kind of think was ruined in the epilogue, learning to show emotion doesn't mean she should be constantly emotional, I think that literally demoted her at the last minute. Gardevoir had an interesting arc that I liked and was a good story partner for radomus. I hated Elias at the beginning but all of the parts where he's really just an old man that has lots of regrets really got to me, and the time travel quest really propped him up.
Good rank was mostly just consistently good/funny interactions and nothing too annoying to make them any lower then that, tolerable is just that, not quite good but no negative feelings towards them. Disliked is self explanatory, and taka died in the desert.
I don't care whatever reason terra had for being an annoying bitch, but that's what she was from start to end, in plot and in battles. Adrienn was a plot device that didn't need to be created, an already existing character could've easily fit their role, hell they allude to it being Arclight in the epilogue. Ace is just terra with less memes but more words. Future cain being just cain sealed his fate, he was just sex jokes from start to finish and I honestly forgot he died until he showed up in new world, I just thought he left or something. electrorape was always gonna be here, but the weird postgame thing with him was extra gross. Amaria should jump off a cliff again. Euphie just shouldn't exist, they are shoehorned in an already bad quest and just make it so much worse.

reborn is presented as grimy, corrupt city, but aside from that one cop near the start who talks about getting info from perps with a torkoal, they're generally presented as pretty decent. They may not be that effective, but that seems to be because they're under resourced and up against more than they can handle, which just makes them sympathetic. Even if you dont help them out early on they're not dicks to you, in this scene they still give you the benefit of the doubt. The only ones who complain about them are characters like craudberry here who are explicitly horrible or active criminals.

Luna was pretty tough. I had counters to most of her team, but most of them hit hard enough on her field that switching in wears my mons down enough that it came down to one left on each team with Unfezant baiting her Absol's Sucker Punch before getting the win
When I played Vanilla I had my boy Torterra to break the field, but had to go through the hard way this time. I like this team but it does lack field changing moves.

Keep in mind that sometimes you'll have to straight up prepare an entirely new pokemon to abuse the field in a fight though. Once the battle starts it may be easy but there's also some prep time that needs to go into it, for example the Aurorus I used against Souta was pulled out of nowhere, I had to train it from revival for that fight specifically. The battle itself isnt the only challenge

I remember it being explained as a bug when the field generator battlefield thingies were made.
I've also been thinking about the le Pokemon no souls asspull, just say anything that fell down couldn't survive in the new ecosystem or died from not properly decompressing (they only say they have no souls to explain why the pokemon don't have a weird aura around them right). There, solved without needing to brutalize the lore of Pokemon, Pokemon Reborn and Pokemon Rejuvenation itself. It's like Jan is actively trying to make the worst story/lore decisions possible.

Even if you have high karma, you can still get on renegade somewhat easily by shitting on the characters and generally doing the "bad" options when the story allows (ie. Florin dying already puts you at 20/100 points needed, and letting Karen die add another 10 killing Karrina after that would've added another 20, but you'd miss out on some renegade content)
Of course, if you're playing normally, you likely won't make the cut, so you can just debug the variable to 100 and you should be fine

Chapter v15 is pretty much just you going around playing as other characters.......though thankfully you can use your own Pokemon for those sections, it also lasts an eternity, especially nightmare school, barely has any battles, items to find or anything to do, you're just going through cutscene after cutscene for hours on end.

The shitty Chuck fight on Terajuma is one of the worst things I have ever seen, I do not know what kind of psychopath thought this fight was okay in any way, especially if you picked Totodile as a starter like me, it's dogshit on every front, none of Chuck's Pokemon take any fucking damage, they all seem to have crit hax, never miss attacks, I've seen Poliwrath casually spamming Focus Blast 12 times on a roll during different attempts and it never misses, I missed via Rollout and Thunder Fang at least 7 times already, this is so fucking stupid and despite the wiki clearly saying you can get the Johto starter crests right before leaving for GDC, I still don't remember seeing the npc anywhere in West Gearen by then.

The team I was given for this fight was Croconaw, which still hasn't evolved despite being level 31, Donphan, Arcanine and FUCKING Umbreon, Croconaw can barely do anything and the rest get fucked by Chuck's coverage or his Poliwrath nuking you with Focus Blasts that can't miss, you're forced to rely on low accuracy moves to get anything done, it's dogshit, I'm gonna assume they didn't playtest this fight with all the starters or they expect you to item spam.

EXP candies are a Godsend and changing EVs on the fly with the debug menu has saved me so much strife that it really just isn't worth considering not having used them. Lin was actually trying, and going back in time to kill/unrape Lin would just create a time paradox. And if Xen still, somehow, became a threat Lin could just speedrun getting the keys, make PULSEceus and instawin.
As for Xen grunts since they're Black Boxes forced to work for Xen (one grunt even says Neved (totes wholesome redeemable guy) is going to kill him AGAIN and Kieran hints the guy that fell in lava might not be done for). So the only question is why the execs would work for Xen when they're obviously not getting what they want, only Nastacia is kinda close in finding her friend (Maria/Melia) but apparently Madame X needs her for something that's probably not good for her, and I say apparently because she could've just taken Melia by now.

I think you could honestly just say Lin solos based on Kieran/Clear stating that the Puppet Master, who's very likely strictly weaker than Lin (Puppet Master trying to overwrite reality didn't amount to shit and Lin actually succeeded), is more powerful than the entirety of Xen including Madame X combined.

Maybe if child Lin and Arceus also got warped in there might be a chance for Xen if they kill her but if the PULSE Abra at the end of Reborn is up they could just camp there, teleport any threat away and kill Kieran/Clear first since their wormholes would be annoying.

Im upset they just completely dropped his bitterness in not being able to save his own town, like yeah it was a stupid reason to join the people who killed his friend but I'd rather it get used than immediately thrown out and explained as "Oh Crescent actually told him to do it and manipulated him, he wasnt going to do anything otherwise". Play into the fact it was a stupid reason, he joined them on a selfish impulse and is forced to live with that consequence, as is he just gets instantly forgiven the second he's present again and he may as well have been a xen member from the start with how he acts about it

Xen's advantages are what, numbers? Having some better toys and tech? Shadow mons? Less than half a dozen Rifts, with it being dubious how fast Zetta can even create one?
Meteor has PULSE2 on even just its regular grunts which means all of their admins are likely way the fuck stronger than Xen's. The only exception is Geara who has a legendary that he can barely even control and who gets slapped around by a normal human woman kek
The advantages the PULSEs have are also way stronger - Clawitzer/Mime could probably destroy most of Xen on their own, to say nothing of the dozen others they would have

Only thing I could see is if Rift Stakataka is worth anything, otherwise quality > quantity with most of the Xenniggers being just kinda shit. Lin makes it more clear cut

xen does have way more members and "regular" weapons like battleships and tanks though, pulse mime and clawitzer would help with that but in terms of getting around and the capability of grunts being armed I think xen has the advantage. It wouldn't matter to Lin and if she can spawn new world gates it's game over but I don't know if Xen would be immediately thrashed

Yeah, I don't think it would be an absolute thrashing, but I think between the variety and power of the PULSEs and the Meteors just having flat out way better quality of Pokemon and trainers thanks to PULSE2 that it doesn't really matter if Xen has lots more shit, they're just nowhere near as effective. Even their tanks and shit aren't even really that useful (reminder that Madelis designed their tanks so they're definitely shit). Basically like 10000 toddlers vs 500 Mike Tysons, would probably be rough but still a cinch.
