SERIOUSLY, why couldn't they give the Gym Leaders and E4 actual models?
Same with ORAS, a lot of it's major battles were just the characters artwork.

Actually I've played through every single game at least 6 times.

I like Gen 5's sprites the most. Made most Pokémon feel alive.

Gen 6 just slides the artwork, it feels really soulless even in comparison to inanimate sprites. At least the sprites seem more legit in the context of the rest of the graphics, less so in an otherwise 3D game. I really appreciate Gen 7 fixing this personally.

It's probably just because they were still adjusting to making 3d games and thought sprites wouldn't fit and either didn't want to have models for every trainer or didn't have time to model them, really despite the shitflinging you see here gens 5 and 6 have a lot in common in terms of being in the awkward phase between the 2d games and the full-on no grid 3d of gens 7 and beyond. Personally I like the artwork, it's nice to have more detailed battle images and they don't usually make official artwork for all the generic trainer classes.
