The Sabrina arc was so fucking weird. She's a psycho with some kind of split personality because she turned her mother into a doll when she was a kid. Her hobo father, who also has psychic powers and can teleport without a pokemon, rescues Ash from being turned into a doll and tells him to catch a ghost pokemon. This being gen 1, psychic moves are super effective against the only ghost type line due to their poison type, and there are no ghost attacking moves besides lick and actually does not effect psychic types possibly due to a programming error, confusing everyone watching the show until gen 2 retroactively resolves this issue. Ash shows up, does not really battle with his Haunter, and just makes Sabrina laugh. She releases everyone because apparently the only thing she needed to be convinced to release her mother from years-long captivity was a slapstick joke.
