I was afraid Metang would potentially be a bit too strong for this point in the game since it's a pseudo and all, but it's doing so laughably poorly that it's depressing, Braixen and Galarian Meowth more than carry their weight and have done miracles for me, while Metang just.....sits there doing pathetic damage and nothing else.

Part of me wants to blame the lead deso dev stepping back due to busy being an actual doctor IRL and the project being taken over by Reborners, which as you know typically have preferences that are less likely to present an interesting and/or original vision. We don't know that for sure, of course, but it felt like Deso 6 had a tone/focus shift that just didn't fucking gel with what I did like about it earlier, which is actually a lot.

Has anyone done Rejuv v13.5 to its end yet? I was actually quite happy with it and ready to acknowledge Jan as finally earning the mandate of heaven, but then I fucking found Eizen. I've more or less paused indefinitely because I feel like going further forward would actually damage my brain.

Yeah, we've done it, the rentry up in the OP has all the playthroughs since musk's original v13. We've done maybe too many of these things kek
v13.5 IS an improvement in a lot of ways...and a major step back in a lot of others, especially the Paragon route where the metanarrative bullshit that started with Eizen goes into "holy fucking shit Jan what the fuck are you doing" levels

Thing I think hits new Rejuv updates WAY harder than Deso, to the point where the last 20 hours or so are indistinguishable from Sony moviegame walking sim tier (though it is definitely a valid criticism of lategame Deso at the moment)
Either way, hopefully the autism gets toned down in both future game's releases, but a lot less optimistic on Rejuv

The consensus iirc was 'paragon is dogshit' and renegade was a bit more of a mixed bag, but I fount it (renegade) pretty fun for the most part

This is far more painful that I'd expect.

I feel like the biggest issue was the lack of focus compared to previous chapters, East Cellia was fun to explore honestly for what it was worth, but then you start getting funneled really hard when you reach the prison and nothing goes anywhere, Arcanius thus far feels really underwhelming and they barely did anything to address two certain characters being alive or not during v6, one runs off and the other might as well have stayed dead with how little bearing said character has on the story.
Yeah we did a Multi-LP on Rejuvenation a while back and we had a lot of mixed feelings on it, the player getting actual credit and praise for beating Madame X felt nice, new tilesets and animations look beautiful, but the story is arguably even worse in many areas, doesn't help shit characters like Saki and Venam are even more present now, Ren keeps getting worse with each version because Jan doesn't any of his characters to have negatively qualities or come off like asshats like in previous versions (he does it really fucking poorly, but still), the end of Karma Files was pretty much the straw that broken the camel's back for most of us, if you didn't like Eizen, imagine that but at least 100x times worse.

I think for me the biggest change was the focus on cutscene-based plot rather than navigation and character interactions. One of the things that made V5 good for me, even though it has some meta-nonsense as a red herring is that the Player themselves is allowed to navigate and solve the mystery. It's a lot easier to accept the bullshit that comes with the inception plot because it's presented to you organically. V6 does the opposite of this as Reeve and Waldenhall basically only exist to exposition dump the player with things that can't be resolved in this version. Muddying things even more is that these characters basically didn't exist before V6 content so there's no actual investment in their kinda smug homo backstory.
I think Caz is best at writing character interactions and gameplay-story integration, and having cutscene hallways does not really play to that strength.
But this is way more that can be said of both Reborn and Rejuv, especially since everything Jan adds retroactively ruins everything prior

I remember around 2020-2021 when I lurked Jan's server that there was a Scott Pilgrim movie night for Jan and his child/manchild simps and the general (Jan's) consensus was that the movie didn't age well because Scott Pilgrim was problematic. The problem is that unlike with the KLK reference he could've written out of the script like he eventually did, v13.5 establishes that the true ACTUAL main villain this time is probably the IRL Jan himself or a late introduced character who controls a computer that is the IRL Jan
A large amount of the plot now is reliant on the in-game characters learning they are video game characters
It wouldn't be past Jan to just spend 2-4 years and rewrite everything again I suppose

That's the same feeling I got regarding those two, I like that Wandehall has been hinted throughout for a little while before episode 6 and that his presence does feel like it have an impact, but him being completely absent prior to that chapter doesn't help, yeah the exposition vehicles suck and I really miss the small interactions and puzzle solving from the earlier chapters of the game, something that's pretty much absent from episode 6 outside of like 1 or 2 quests, I imagine Artem aka Crescentnigger will be the same.

I do think that Deso can be carried by the general writing quality still there. I do know that they said there would be less exploration focus in the next episode which sucks. On the flipside, the next episode will be in Darkroot, which should feature the better characters like Amelia/Nova. This one had Garrett, (Who I like), and Scarlett and Conner (They're kind of jobbers). Besides, there was still stuff I liked in V6. I liked the Nova arc and that people don't magically think she's a good person, and the sidequests were still quality, even simple ones like the Rosetta one.

The Desolation devs are a lot of more open to criticism, a guy from the dev team, hard to say if it was Posty or someone else, saw people bringing up the lack of good TMs especially for types like Water and such and he didn't sperg out, he just addressed the criticism and said it will be addressed, if the same happened with a Rejuvenation dev we all know what would happen.

Also this is very late but a long time ago I was banned from the pokemon myth server for giving critiques. Strangely enough, it was me saying that walls of text with a two-line limit was bad and that they should look into infinity sometimes using three lines that really set them off. That, and talking shit about Daybreak I guess, since they seem to have ties with the Daybreak people for some reason. A lot of things fell into place when I saw daybreak dev self inserts in Myth.

The lead devs are a strange sort. Not only are they really young (at the time, one of them had just graduated high school), the lead dev and the other person just mentioned were apparently engaged. Not saying there's grooming, I'm saying they're really fucking young. Not Full Moon literally 14~ years old young though.

Speaking of Full Moon, I have no idea what it's like beyond the first hour. However, a long time ago I made a joke that 'Esteban' the lead dev made the game to impress his crush, because of how much it seemed like a kids fanfic. The games Facebook page used to have an actual picsl of him which is how I knew he was a kid, and at some point it showed him and a girl hugging, and then a girl's name was added as a dev in the next update. If making a fangame to impress his crush actually fucking worked I fucking kneel.

Full moon is bad, but it's exasperated greatly by the lack of fast travel/Fly for 90% of the game's current release when the game's littered with backtracking halfway across the region multiple times
I still enjoyed it a decent amount more than some of the other dogshit we've played though, but man, the no fly thing really gets on my nerves

Kek, but seriously, the actual issues (beyond Fly being THAT FUCKING LATE, and obviously stealing maps directly from Reborn) are things like the absolutely awful fight design, complete lack of QOL, a story that's somehow worse than early Reborn/Rejuvenation, and a severe amount of padding and backtracking. The latter being so much worse because you don't get Fly until the last hour of the game after countless hours of having to run across the entire region multiple times, and the character who gives you Fly has the FUCKING GALL to say "I didn't know you needed it until now"
Basically, tl;dr every bit as bad as you'd think it is

We were talking about this last thread or so, but they more than likely lied about their DMCA, they have a long history about lying about very weird shit (apparently they outed one of the devs as a groomer, which turned out to be fake - don't know if this is true or not), and they're adamant about the game not having a memory leak when it so clearly fucking does. They also gang up on you and harass you on their server if you claim the game does run like shit kek

That's just his allergy to giving the player relevant information. I remember in v12 I didn't get the Ryland/Eve connection until looking at the wiki and back then the name Eve showed up a lot more in flashbacks. I believe now the connection is made in a book you can only read after sparing Karen.

In ye somewhat olden days initially getting to GDC you had to take a vaccine to get in, for some reason there were different types and of course Melia gets the special one. They were also weird because a vaccine is "a substance used to stimulate immunity to a particular infectious disease or pathogen." and apparently visitors had to get those so they don't spread disease INTO the city.

This is the latest I've played of rejuv since I haven't done 13.5, and it stuck out to me how awful this attempt at """social commentary""" is, almost Postscriptum tier fucking stupid. Nothing about how Axis High is simultaneously seen as THE best education in terms of jobs while also apparently pumping out wageslaves makes any sense. You'd expect Axis High to be really fucking good on your resume or it wouldn't be so selective, or people just wouldn't bother fighting tooth and nail to get in just for jobs.

I also can't tell if the 'University' being set up like a high school is because Jan wants it to be a high school just like his anime/danganronpa, or if he genuinely has never been in a university. Either way, it feels like social commentary on higher education from someone who hasn't actually had higher education.

Also, how's Vanguard? The regionals look cool but I noticed my protag not only talks but instantly fawns over what looks to be the Melia of the game so I hope I'm at least in for something funny.

Fuck, perfecting this fight was a gigantic pain in the ass and came down to pure luck in landing a Mirror Shot on the Oricorio to lower it's accuracy, there's nothing I can use to even remotely come to dealing with that stupid bird, nothing switches in safely, Jynx can eat a Revelation Dance but dies immediately after and since I'm avoiding EV training for now, this was painful miserable, still doable if you're willing to gamble.

Cuckguard as we took to calling is arguably one of the worst games we've ever played, it was bad before but as of 3.0 it's one of the worst fangames we ever played bar none, horribly designed routes, constant trainer spam to the point of making you exhausted, atrociously boring quests, the story and progression is painfully shit and Ayrei went out of his way to rush the game, which means it was bugged to shit when we played, we couldn't go a single minute without seeing bugs, softlocks and glitches, often gamebreaking ones too, and that's just the beginning, the MC is an orbiter who never stops whining, the main cast is so forgettable that I don't think anyone can recall all their names from memory even while playing the game and this is just the beginning of the problems that game has.

Incomprehensible plot that's not nearly as entertaining as Rejuv despite clearly taking lots of cues from it
Terrible cast of characters, 90% of the time spent with them is spent offscreen
Terrible route design that's far too long and spams so many fucking trainers or overworld wild mons at you with barely any healing points
Nothing but generic MMO tier sidequests for side content

Far from the worst we've played, but it's down there.

If you wait for 4.0, the head dev has claimed he's listened to criticism and will alleviate major problems with the level design and side content. The story should still be a dumpster fire but at least it might be more actually fun to play.

It's mind-numbingly boring, so much so that it comes close to if not outright surpassing Soulstones 1 and 2 in boredom.
Imagine Rejuvenation's writing at it's worse, dial that up to 1000, let it rot and die than parade it's carcass around in front of everyone, that's how bad the progression and writing in that game feel and it never changes, it's so fucking formulaic, literally everything and by the end of the game we figured out Ayrei was copying My Hero Academia, down to the MC beating a thing that doesn't even look like a Pokemon by punching it really fucking hard when it was established that even legendary Pokemon were not able to stand up to it, it hurts dude, it seriously hurts to put yourself through that "game".

We're pretty harsh on it (partly) because of the dev hyping up 3.0 for months as a "totally different game" and then it turned out to be the same shit, but worse at points, but it's still pretty bad/boring regardless. Add in al the new areas solely to draw out some shit, the wild pokemon trainerspam, and the Alpha pokemoonspam, and it makes 3.0 arguably a worse experience than 2.3 imo
The dev apparently listened/will listen to feedback on it for 4.0, but I'm not terribly hopeful for it
It has it's moments that are fun to shitpost about, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anybody kek

this is actually the dangerous part of the game for me, because its about when I start thinking about other teams. While it would make sense to just build the new team where I am and carry on, my tism demands I build them as early in possible in the game and stick with them through the early stuff. Melia actually does this in Rejuv a few points, at least in v13/13.5

Speaking of, the Silver Rise segment used to have one of my favourite fucking tracks in the entire game. However, it's not been changed to generic reborncore snow area music, and I can't believe I'm using reborncore as a fucking music term now, but you know what I mean. Apparently, it was because Caz forgot where he got the song and never credited it.

One thing I noticed in Desolation is how just by using the built in RPGmaker music slow/speedup options a lot of the music is made to feel much more appropriately atmospheric. While not exactly a case of this, Hardy's music is a very slightly sped up Tellur Town Autumn from Pokken and I really like the way it sounds.

I still don't trust fangames enough to have sensible mon distributions to do a dualtype, but I'll do a no items +15% enemy trainer level run again unless this is the kind of game where that's a very bad idea. It can't be worse than Anything Goes Reborn, right?
I'm likely going to fall even further behind as my free time is pretty limited this weekend but we'll see how this goes.

I remember Desolation being pretty easy, but I used Rillaboom which massively skews the curve so I dont have a good handle on its actually difficulty

Granted the relationship system in rejuv is braindead nice response/mean response but at the very least have characters note their closeness to the player.
