Supposedly his name comes from a TCG tournament winner. These were the Pokémon cards in his deck, maybe some of these could be Tobias's other Pokémon? At the very least, I bet he used some of them before he eventually caught his Darkrai.

A well-written series wouldve taken his character and turned him into a rival for the next season where ash eventually defeats him and becomes champion of the next region. Only a shitty show and cuckold fags would prefer making a character that defeats the protagonist easily and then not have the protagonist defeat him later eventually as part of a character arc
