>>56192037>Why was the Pokemon gen 5 anime shit?1. Ash. After four serieses of fairly consistent character change, Ash suddenly regresses, both in terms of maturity and intelligence, just so that he would be more like his Indigo League self. This is, of course, frustrating to the audience that has been watching since the beginning.
2. Iris. They clearly wanted to recreate Ash and Misty's dynamic, but whereas Ash and Misty were like squabbling siblings (which was only caused by Ash destroying her bike and never repairing or replacing it), Iris just comes off as stuck-up to Ash for little reason.
3. Cilan. I do like Cilan, but as a replacement for Brock, a mainstay for most of the show's run up until this point, and the only companion popular enough to leave and then come back as a main character, Cilan is 100% a downgrade. None of his connoisseur or detective stuff is ever as funny as the average Brock declaration of love.
4. Cancelled episodes. After spending twenty-two episodes on build-up to a two-parter, the two-parter is pulled last minute. Instead of just postponing, and keeping the arc intact, or rewriting, and going down a different route, they do nothing. Plot points and characters are dropped without being mentioned ever again, and the series flounders with no central villain arc what-so-ever until over a year later, only a few underwhelming mini-arcs.
5. Team Rocket. In an attempt to make them credible villains, Team Rocket have their personalities and their humour - the best parts of them - stripped from them in favour of generic bad guy stuff. They also rarely appear, meaning that with no funny Team Rocket antics to inject some sort of life into them, 90% of the filler episodes in this series are tedious and boring.
