Which starter Pokémon did you choose when you were a kid? I always liked Squirtle best.

I did multiple runs of RBY and FRLG so it's all of them eventually, but my very first was Charmander.

Exactly this order for me as well.
Favorite is still Char tho, even if admittedly Bulb is the one actually useful in gameplay

Well you can exclude Bulbasaur. I doubt you went out of your way to catch another Grass/Poison

Squirtle was my boy as a kid.
I've never finished a run where I used charizard, but I don't care for fire types in general. the only fire type starter I like is Torchic.

It kinda was, for the first gym you are pretty much forced to get Butterfree or mankey or grind pikachu to a high level.

Don't remember what my first pick when I was 5 was, but it was probably Charmander. Nowadays. I usually go for either Bulbasaur or Squirtle, leaning towards Bulbasaur. Blastoise does scale better late-game, but Venusaur can still contribute there in places, and Kanto has some good Waters to fill in for Blastoise.

I've always choose water types. I did a playthrough of Cyndaquil with Crystal when it was the only vidya I had for a while after multiple with Totodile. Outside of that I only use Water pokemon.

First mon I ever had was Bulbasaur, which remains one of my favorite starters to this day.
Then I started picking Charmander because I have an autistic obsession with dragons. Charizard is cool, fuck the contrarians who say otherwise.
Squirtle is also cool but I barely ever used it. I don't mind having it on my team but I'd rather pick one of the other two. Overall Gen 1 has fantastic starters and no other starter trio has even come close.

Charmander. No apologies. I love Godzilla so any kind of flame breathing dinosaur type thing(yes I know Godzilla is neither flame breathing or, technically, a dinosuar) so being able to raise one immediately drew me to Pokemon. I liked Squirtle because of Gamera and used him when I got blue(besides just plain color autism)
I didn't get around to using Bulbasaur till much later, but I love that little dude, too.
