I fully agree with
>>56195068 >>56196194 >>56197028 >>56197397Pokemon already had the means necessary to show animals adapting to different environments from the very beginning, like how we have a brown bear and a polar bear, or different lines of cave bats, or all the caterpillar lines that showcase different biologies. This was an unnecessary mechanic that was only added because GF was scared of dex bloat, and it ironically ended up making the dex worse for organizing.
I also hate how by all means they work like new pokemon, but they're still forced to share the name and dex slot of the original design because GF wants to have their cake and eat it too.
And they actually do nothing to "revitalize" interest in old, neglected mons, since a lot of them end up outclassing their original forms and leaving them in the dust.
I would argue more than half of them could've just been alternate evolutions (Clodsire should've been what happens when you evolve Wooper in a swamp, for example), but the biggest problem is that GF is basically using them as an excuse to be lazy (as usual) and fill the dex with a bunch of recolors, with the occasional (if not very rare) brilliant twist on a concept/idea that could've easily been its own pokemon but instead gets wasted on a rehash.
I unironically think the original fan-concept of regional variants being the same pokemon with just different aesthetics (inspired by the island pokemon seen in old anime episodes) would've been less "messy", but most people seem to have forgotten about that old idea after Alola happened.
