Where would GF pick for Gen 10’s region basis? Imagine if they pick Tohoku since it would nice if the series went back to its roots for its 30th anniversary.

From what others have said, the only regions of Japan left are rural boondocks-type places and that's just unlikely to be used as basis for a new game.
My money's on Germany, for much the same reasons they went with Spain/Portugal for Gen 9 - large region that can easily be turned into an open-world map and inhabited throughout the country.

It would be really awesome if the next gen were in that 2DHD style like the DQIII remake and Octopath and it let you travel through all previous regions like in GSC. it’s not like the games can’t handle that nowadays. I just want a new game that lets you collect more than 8 badges again.

Dude, they don't care for you. The new Gen will look better than this, but still nowhere near the bleeding edge of 3D graphical fidelity because they're aiming as always to entrap an entire GENERATION of children with the thing.
And only nostalgiatard manchildren give a monkey's for "2DHD like that DQIII wemake and that trite bullshit by sqweenix", given Octopath only sold 3m in 6 years. Every Switch pokémon release has sold at least double that in their 3 day launch totals, SV sold three times that. Which just shows how different the audiences they're both targeting.

The devs are huge Euroboos so I would not be surprised by a German/Scandinavian North Sea themed region or an Italian/Greek Mediterranean themed region. A return to Japan also seems pretty possible.

I think South America would be a really diverse region with lots of inspiration for new Pokemon. Incan mountain villages and ruins, the Amazon, high altitude deserts, massive sawgrass wetlands, coastal cities, sleepy farming towns, lots to work with thematically.

I would love a Canada-based region. Mountainous region with verticality in BC? The given example of the Great Lakes? The endless urban cancerous mass that is the Greater Toronto Area? Somewhere further north, like Nunavut? I'd actually be interested in seeing another wintry region, but properly this time. Sinnoh has snow piles everywhere, but come on, that doesn't count. Imagine being able to get an ice pokemon before the late game.
