it also doubles this because she has two separate timeloops, one for when she first becomes origin forme, and the second when her last shield is broken
it then also snapshots the state of the battle
then it sorts it all into nice little indexes to be called on, and then actually figures out how to 'revert' the battle in the last bit
in actuality it's actually probably not as terrible as it looks, but still kek

A lot of older story beats have just been completely destroyed from Jan's rewrites and shit memory, including multiple things never getting followed up on again (The Snag Machine, Akuwa's residents, Kanon's crush on Melia, etc) that were originally and stuff like Tesla taking you in having a lot less weight now that there's 3 other "Here's your new room!" scenes and the stuff surrounding your mom that was added. Not to mention the stuff like Ren's anger at not saving his town still being tossed aside, and all the shit trying to justify bad people doing horrible things. I'm also never getting over Kris fucking Deltarune just showing up. The story was a mess before but it had a better good to bad ratio I feel when compared to what is now. But I won't lie, Renegade does have me interested in seeing where this goes when V14 comes out in 3 years at best. The game's problems ironically make for a great set up to a "Fuck this, I hate this world and I want it to burn" edgekino route, which almost feels retroactively intentional? Like Jan wasn't thinking of that at the start but at some point had to realize some people were tired of having to treat literal whos as besties and went with it instead of actually fixing any of it. A lot of M2's dialogue just feels too accurate to my own feelings at times for it to be coincidence.
As for where I go from here, I'm not too sure. I dont think I want to jump into Reborn this soon, but Desolation seems pretty interesting. I mostly just jumped in here because I was replaying Rejuv anyway and wanted some people to talk about it with, but I think I'm gonna wait and see if I still got the bug to play more pokemon before starting another game. Also depends on how long Desolation is because good lord I spent a lot of time of Rejuv alone

you can give up your ability to save after the 10th gym, and if you do that, then do every single sidequest in the next area, which includes a secret quest, then you get a specific pseudo item depending on your response to two specific questions earlier in that chapter That means you only get 4 pseudos of your choice

For the most part yeah, the difficulty could be utter bullshit at times but at least I had to actively think about what I was doing and prepare, which honestly preparation tends to be one of my favorite parts of an rpg. That does lessen a bit halfway through when new routes become a lot less common and the game shifts focus away from what exploration it had to hour long cutscenes and character bloat. The side quests really start to fall off as well when the story tries taking itself more and more seriously. Early on they were nice enough distractions and a lot more of them get brought up later in the main story than I'd expect, though obviously not all of them are winners like odessa's entire quest is garbage the whole way. The main problem is really the sheer amount of fucking padding, roughly 200 hours when you cut idle time generously and it's still not done. My first playthrough of Persona 5 was like 130 start to finish with time spent idle, and I already consider that really long. But whenever there was actual gameplay, it was good enough to keep me playing that long if at a cost to my patience.

V8 Rejuv was a poorly strung together fanboy attempt at a loveletter to weeb and children's media (the best worst media food group). Even Aelita I want to say is a Code Lyoko reference, Ren was just an edgy anime rival at the time, etc.
The main point I have is that it had no real identity or vision it wanted to present. It's literally just a slurry of references to games and anime Jan likes with his Yandev-esque waifu as the "Central force". That's why the game weathervanes in quality and design from version to version, there is literally no glue holding it together. What you see now will be changed significantly by V15 if not earlier. That's why I don't buy Renegade all that much, even if it is the better route. You'd actually have to commit to the bit, and Jan has literally never committed to any bit except for jacking off to Melia, cause there's no unique story he wants to tell.

Melia is far from the worst character these days, but she's pretty representative of the story design problems. She's a JRPG lead with a mysterious backstory and ties to the main villain, you can't get more generic than that. Jan of course thinks she's super interesting cause he wants to fuck her, but that isn't enough for an audience. He tries to make her more interesting by giving her a super convoluted backstory, but it feels so ungrounded and ridiculous that there's no humanization aspect to her. Compare that to Aelita, who is introduced having human problems like her relationship with her father, her love for her hometown, and then continues to show human qualities and actually be a good friend and it's clear why everyone likes her better.

Okay, I went off to do my afternoon chores and I just came back to trying out the Ryder's quest fox fight and I ran into this fucking Haxorus is nuking everything from existence with Focus Blast, I though I was dealing with a Zoroark, but no, it's a fucking Haxorus, how the fuck is as Pokemon with 60 special attack nuking neutral targets with a move that has no STAB?! I don't have anything that deals with Water and Ghost types well enough and many of my Pokemon have glaring flaws, doesn't help that everything I face runs either Knock Off or strong Fighting moves like Superpower or Close Combat, so I'm always on the backfoot and because I'm me, crits are pretty guaranteed to fuck me over each and every time.

My current team of sorts and the one I used for the fight, I am not kidding when I say I had to resort to obscene levels of trial and error and autism to get through this, I had to fully invest my Delphox into physical bulk, had to constantly make hard switches and rely on not getting completely fucked by crits and the worst part is how fucking unpredictable Aaron is, his Empoleon keeps pointing a gun at both of my Pokemon's head and I had to figure out which he was going to try and shoot at, I had to resort to lowering the levels of a few of my Pokemon like Magnezone and Zen Darmanitan just so they would be slow enough to outspeed key threats under Trick Room, and worst of all was how obscenely stupid that fucking Bronzong was, sometimes it seemed to notice my Pokemon were slow enough to outspeed it and it would turn off Trick Room to fuck me over, which made this fight into a hectic dance of me trying to exploit the AI and praying to the skies I wouldn't get fucked, this was not fun, not at all.
