- GameFreak will never repeat any starter on a single console outside of the now-defunct 3rd versions, as it makes the marketing clunky and confusing. So this eliminates the Kanto trio, Sinnoh trio, Galar trio, Paldea trio, Cyndaquil, Oshawott, and Rowlet from the running.
- They’re not gonna nullify any shillable megas from the game, so the Hoenn starters are out
- This leaves Chikorita / Snivy / Chespin, Tepig / Litten / Fennekin, and Totodile / Popplio / Froakie as our only logical pool of options
- If you consider that X&Y has an ancient statue of Unovan Serperior, this pretty much guarantees us an alt trio of:

>Tepig
>Popplio
If not the Kalos starters. If they’re taking cues from X&Y, we may well get that alt trio with regional variant final evos, while we’re gifted a Kalos starter with a new mega evolution.
