I always did wonder about the logistics of pokemon transportation. Yes, we know cars exist, but the roads are dirt and very rural outside of cities.
Probably because most people can choose to ride pokemon for convenience. Realistically, you wouldn't expect personal vehicles to take off in a world where you can ride a giant bird, dragon, sea serpent, horse, or deer from town to town. Even more so when the rideable animals are abundant and sentient enough to understand humans.
This would mean the towns and cities would form in the exact way they are portrayed in the Pokemon world. Small, sparsely populated towns connected by dirt roads and major cities with vehicles because certain jobs, like transportation of larger materials, can't be done by pokemon.
