Why doesn't this board have a Showdown/Smogon general? Is there some past drama I missed or is there just no interest in competitive mons?

Here's a UU team I've been experimenting with it's pretty fun. You guys have any unorthodox teams you like?

I think people here enjoy talking about theory more then actually playing. When smogon does something remotely major you will see threads about it but people just talk their hypotheticals.

Anyway, post kino moves. I fucking love fell stinger, almost always run it when it can fit. I hope megas come back if only because mega beedrill with fell stinger is one of the most fun sweepers I've ever used.

Very cool team anon! There are these "Showderp" threads, but I never look through them.
I played Showdown occasionally over the years, but I just can't take it too seriously competitively with all the rng. Too many times I'd beat someone and feel bad about everything that went wrong for them.
If you want more showdown threads feel free to make them, still better than 99% of what gets posted here daily

I was unsure about making a thread because I assumed there's some reason no one does it. Regarding taking it "seriously" I can't do it either. I was hoping anons would have some fun teams I can copy to make the games more interesting.

Not really. You can post your team on Smogon's forums if you want people to critique it.
Keep in mind VGC is played in 2v2 format so stuff like Ho-Oh gets very easily overwhelmed.

Hating Smogon is popular around here. That said, we have a showderp general even if it's mostly dead.

Personally I'm also not fond of Smogon, but on the other hand I can appreciate Showdown as a software. Really wish there was a real alternative to their server, everywhere else you aren't going to find players easily.

What's the reason for the hate towards Smogon? I don't participate in their community but they seem pretty welcoming of silly builds. Usually being elitist is most people's complaint towards competitive communities.
You can of course make your own inhouse league all it requires is a discord server and some friends. But that's too much effort and I'd rather play against randoms for the variety.

Any examples of retarded bans? I don't really keep up with the mods. The only ban that was relevant to me was Volcarona but I still thought it was reasonable since Tera and Heavy Duty Boots invalidates its weaknesses. Gen 9 might have more bans than any other gen in history but part of that is GameFreak built a ton of Gen 9 sweepers like Chi Yu and Chien Pao for VGC with the expectation that they can't survive a 2v2 format but they're fucking oppressive in 1v1.

I'm fairly pissed at the moment. Was stalled out by a Dragon tera Garganacl and Alomomola, vs. my Rotom-W, Heatran, and Normal tera Dondozo with Rest. And the Garganacl was tricked a Choice Scarf. In theory its dead but these gen 9 "Immune to all status" abilities are absolute bullshit, never could accrue damage through the constant Wish Passing Regenerator.
I mean, I saw him again and got even by keeping Bulko-Sub Landorus alive, but the fact I was 50% against this scooby-doo still enrages me.

Dondozo is an extremely binary pokemon I don't like using it for that reason he's just too passive. That's also just the nature of laddering though sometimes you get surprised by some wacky shit and realize you have a hole in your team that needs fixing.

I just don't like their perpetual knee-jerk reaction to the weather wars from 4 generations ago, to the point they just keep weather strats nerfed to the ground and only semi-viable in monotype.
GF's original nerf was enough, they didn't need to perma-ban specific items and abilities.

I can only speak for myself but I'm just not a fan of how much powercreep there's been in the past couple games. I do enjoy competitive in older gens at least.

I really like Tera it makes every pokemon inherently more interesting and adds a layer of complexity.
Kingambit and Gholdengo are awful but you can just play UU to get away from them. Not that UU doesn't have its own cancers like Specs Latios/Greninja.
This gen is bad but not as bad as gen 7 or 8 in my opinion.
