Event legendary sounds better than Mythical. They're just legendaries that you can only get from events rather than a distinct classification. It'd be like having "2nd early game mammalian shitmon" as a classification for the likes of Poochyena, Shinx, Yungoos, Yamper, and etc.

I've always seen it as a sub category. All mythical pokemon are legendary pokemon, but not all legendary pokemon are equally legendary. Tapu Koko or Regice are not of the same caliber of Legendary as Mewtwo or Dialga, whom likewise are not of the same caliber as Jirachi or Diancie. It's nuanced.

No, Shining is a tcg term, the English translation of "hikaru Pokémon". It's different from "Shiny", the localization of "irochigai Pokémon", which was usually translated as "differently colored Pokemon".

The official name for them as used by Bulbapedia is "Pokémon of Myth", which we apparently are supposed to accept as a distinct thing from "Mythical Pokémon". I think the alternative name of "Primordial Chaos" that Bulbapedia also recognises is nice but unlikely to be understood in conversation.

I've said Mythical pokemon for a LONG time I swear, it's not remotely new like these other inventions. I don't remember where I got it from, but I swear I can hear a characters voice saying "a mystical pokemon!" and I've known that refers to the small, cute, has a movie for sure, event only mons. Mew, Celebi, Jirachi.
Thing is though I NEVER though of Deoxys, Darkrai, etc as Mythicals. I called them Event Legendaries.
So for a long time I used both.
