Firstly, GF made them two different versions. At the time people thought it meant they were sequels, but GF just made two to get more money out of suckers.
Gamefreak then tried to trick people into thinking there were going to be "Ultra Changes" even going as far as to release an Alola map with a bunch of clouds blocking large areas, implying there were new areas added.
Then, like the soulless shitty ORAS, they added a half hour "episode" to pass it off as post game, and copied over the facility from the last game.
These are just some of the problems. Truly the lowest point in the series, and they were directly responsible for the hate SWSH got.
