It makes sense. Limitations cause you to focus and those parameters allow you to make decisions unique to that concept. An example I remember seeing is Serial Experiments lain, and how at the start of the episode there's a fuzzy picture of Lain staring back at you in the screen. On a CRT you can just barely make her out But in HD the effect is lost somewhat. They used the limitation of the technology at the time to create this sense of eeriness in a clever way that also fits the themes/tone of the series.

I don't believe this is the case. Set parameters can also just as easily cause you to lose focus or otherwise inhibit you from realizing the full extent of your vision. A good example of this is the Motorstorm series, a longer development cycle led to Pacific Rift having objectively more content and thus being almost universally regarded as being better than the original, while Arctic Edge and RC are universally regarded as the worst games in the series due to hardware limitations. A better saying would be "Limitations may breed creativity" but the people who say that "Limitations breed creativity" almost never stop to consider that limitations limit creativity just as if not more often.

It's objectively true in the sense of having to find creative ways around the limitations which might result in an interesting outcome, but the phrase is definitely misused a lot. It's not necessarily going to be more interesting than something you could have achieved without that limitation getting in the way, and we are talking about creative problem solving as opposed to having a creative concept in the first place.

hard disagree. limitations force you to problem solve, and that's where creative ways to circumvent or use the constraints of a medium to your benefit arise. while it's true limitations can be a burden, being limitless often leads to various other production problems such as ever expanding project scope, cancellation, or a story with themes and pacing that become muddied because the author has no pressure to figure out what needs and doesn't need to be included. all rules have exceptions, but generally speaking self imposed or accepted limits force you to become more practical in how you handle creative projects. my hands shake so much i can't do consistent linework, so i switched to a sketchy pencil like style for the most part which has made me much more productive. i hate drawing backgrounds so when i animate, i focus on making the camera work dynamic to compensate for the lack of environment. a programmer facing data management issues like the original red and blue creators have to come up with ways to innovate on storage use. someone making a game for a crt screen must account for the ways it distorts visuals, and figure out how to make it enhance rather than hurt their art. if you're making a genre piece, you follow its some of its conventions. authors have to kill their darlings. i suppose it's all a matter of circumstance but calling the idea stupid on the whole is reductive

And I guess I'll just get this conversation out of the way while I'm at it: Every single character name in Eons in Flux has significant meaning to it, it actually hamstrings me quite a bit whenever I have to introduce a new character as I drop whatever I'm doing to start pouring through etymology records. Actual, serious redefining spoilers ahead:
Phos means "light," even though she surrounds herself with Dark-Types. We've talked about that one before.
It's no coincidence that the man who wants to reshape Paldea in his image is named Franco. That's just the surface-level bait. Jacinto is the Spanish word for "Hyacinth," not only tying him into Macro Cosmos and the flower motif its named characters have (Rose, Oleana/Olive), but also carrying significant mythological meaning.
Azelie is a French mutation of Adelaide, meaning "kind noble," while Gene blessing her with the surname "Rosette" is exactly the kind of divine serendipity I've come to expect from my life because it provides another layer of flower motif foreshadowing for her role in the story.
Ida's name was chosen because it means work.
Side characters are not exempt. Guildemere/Gildemere is named after a major supporting character from the first episode of Aeon Flux whose disgrace serves to establish the narrative between Aeon and her enemy/lover Trevor. Lucie is a diminutive of "Lucille," meaning "Bright," to create a counterpart to Phos and because she's a preexisting character transplanted from my non-Pokemon work. The kill team in Episode 3 is named after the Howard Brothers Moe, Samuel (Shemp), Jerome (Curly), and Larry Fine. Bullard literally means "an untrustworthy person."
The inner machinations of my mind frighten even myself sometimes.

Not a lot actually, though he does bring a canteen filled with water, a cookset (one set of utensils, a pot, a cup), rope, blankets, extra blankets, a compass, the multitool his dad gave him, gloves, three sets of clothes (one to wear at camp, one to wear when the first is being cleaned, and one to go to town if he's going to be camping a while). a coat, sleeping bag, and a knife.

When he goes with his dad he always ends up with more stuff than he showed up with because his dad will go splurge on bushcraft stuff he thinks is cool and then give them to Luke. Who takes them, but has learned from his journey that they aren't super necessary.

Personal bias aside, they're not leaving the Crater unless they become so numerous that they're forced to disperse or die, or someone/something brings them out. Like getting tossed through the mists to end up somewhere else Terapagos and its Tera crystals have been. IE, being summoned by Terapagos at the Crystal Pool in Kitikami or getting google earth random'd while Terapagos is having its stellar freakout during the final fight. We already see Tera crystals growing organically, either by absorbing minerals out of the earth or Tera crystals empowering Tera crystals after sending Tera energy down an infinite chain of linked timelines. Theoretically, anywhere a Terapagos decided to shit a gem in ages past before going extinct is a potential drop point for Paradoxes sooner or later. Other options include the ol' reliable "a Hoopa did it" method, claiming that some of the Professor's Master Balls got misplaced during the return trip, or the Paldean League decided to redistribute small, controllable populations around the world so they aren't all doomed to die out in the failing ecosystem inside the Crater. No one is getting them from the Crater directly though. The fun thing about the Terapagos paradox is that it really is turtles all the way down. Terapagos's grand spergout will happen, has happened, is currently happening still until enough events are changed from the start of the chain to the end to prevent the chain from existing in the first place. Everything that rises must converge, and the reverse is also true. All a Paradox needs to show up and shit on your day is having enough Tera crystals lying around to act as a homing beacon. Of course, this also means that they will, eventually and at complete random, blip out of existence because their world was never linked.

The enemy faction in Emily's story has some. Both through the manual "go to the crater and catch some" means and a lot of others they have on hand are from other methods.

I like your answer but this part really makes me think someone at Gamefreak would pull something similar for later games as an excuse.

Your answer also makes me think of Ultra wormholes as well and that already has infinite possibilities and not just for Ultra Beasts.

The people who gave the faction Emily is fighting their kickstart also introduced them to Paradox Pokemon. The researches of the antagonist faction found them curious and also interesting in that both the past and future versions of Pokemon are both stronger than Present ones. Primitive Paradoxes are subject to biological study to various purposes. Future ones are for mechanical study for their robots like the Mewtwo robot they made that I am introducing in Chapter 2 when my bum ass stops slacking off.

Extremely limited quantities, a very select few who for some reason or another had the clearance to take one out of area zero.
Now here's a followup to that.
What is the level of secrecy from Paldean relevant personnel? What about security? Does the public know? Is it widespread knowledge? Are they allowed to flaunt it publicly for the world to see? What dangers does that imply for the trainer in question or just about anyone/where close to the paradox mon? How do opposing trainers who are none the wiser treat it? What would their approach in battle be, fighting it for the first time with limited intel on it, down to ita very typing?
Again, the ecological considerations the game throws your way are probably enough to consider, but here, have some food for thought.

In my story I was gonna have Paradox, but treat them like they were gifts/faraway prizes. Trainer wise they would think it was just a powerful regional variant and want it, yet the dex wouldn’t say anything on it.

Heck going further I have plans on making Delta type Pokemon dangerous and one thing you would need going after them would be you being physically fit to a certain level as some WOULD take shots at you.

Honestly, once I get this story thing out I'm probably going to write a short bio thing like Emiloid to help explain some of the stuff behind his Pokemon and his life because I feel like that's probably in order. On another note, what inspiration did you use to give December a personality since she's an NPC? I'm thinking of featuring Gaius not as the opp, the only thing I'll say about that one is that it's not who you think it is but I'm not quite sure what to make of him besides "generic asshole" and I'm not quite sure how to make an NPC, well not an NPC.

Of all the ferris wheel dates, I've always been fascinated by her and her Flaaffy and whatever wild spy adventures they're getting up to 3/4ths of the year when they're not laying low in Unova. It didn't take a whole lot to extrapolate a personality from her in-game dialogue and the passage of time. She's been through a lot, but like Phos she's a good person beneath an aloof exterior, so they're a perfect match for a collab.

I’m considering dropping Alex’s “snapped” state. I feel like it’s kind of cliche and I’m not even sure if that’s something people want to see. Gaius definitely seems like a pretty standard "Ace Trainer" personality for the most part.
"I've been waiting for you! The more I battle, the stronger I become!"
Leading with a Gyarados with a Wacan Berry is pretty smart. Chances are good that you'll be leading with your strongest mon, so Intimidate has a 50% chance of forcing it out of the fight while it gets to set up with Dragon Dance. He's learned enough to put the effort in to train a Magikarp, which speaks of his character, and he knows that he has shortcomings he needs to make up for. Pivoting from a wrecking machine like Gyarados to a bulky defensive mon in Dusknoir healing itself with Leftovers and Pain Split while crippling physical attackers further with Will-o-Wisp or Toxic means he's not just a brute but a highly-adaptive strategist capable of knowing when to push the assault and when to bunker down. His Weavile that he sends out last is almost cruel. Fake Out is one more turn of Toxic/Burn damage. Focus Sash is a second turn of damage unless you're specifically using a Skill Link Minccino. Ice Shard if you're low on health, Ice Punch otherwise. So not only is he adaptive, he's also committed to bleeding you to the last possible moment in order to get the win.
All three of these mons are pretty nasty. A hyper-aggressive force of nature, a conniving nest raider and clever pack predator, and a devourer of souls. You've got to be pretty hardcore to associate with friends like these. Big personalities, big appetites. I'll bet he's got a hell of a recipe book.
"It's not enough! I want to battle you even more! You'd better come back sometime! You'd better battle with me again!"
All in all, he's a very passionate Trainer. He's headstrong, but he has the skills to back it up. Instead of being upset about losing, he's determined to try harder next time. This is the kind of person who was destined for great things, so it's no surprise to see he's second only to a Boss with a Legendary Pokemon.

The Team itself is all about the money, like Team Rocket of the OG games. But if they get control of the government and can use it to manipulate the laws and movements of the police then they can do their crimes freely as well as bigger more profitable scams.

If you're writing a Pokemon narrative, Pokemon should be the main draw.
Everything Team Rocket did was for the purpose of helping Giovanni become the most powerful Trainer.
Everything Team Magma/Aqua did was to find and resurrect a specific Pokemon.
Everything Team Galactic did was to coax the Lake Spirits out of hiding so Cyrus could milk them for bait to coax PokeGods out of hiding.
Team Plasma.
Everything Team Flare did was to acquire enough powerful Pokemon to crucify as fuel for the doomsday device.
Everything Team Skull did was because they failed as Trainers. Everything Lusamine did was because she was obsessed with alien Pokemon/fused with an alien Pokemon.
Rose is obsessed with an individual Pokemon and how to exploit it for everything it's worth at the expense of literally everything else.
Arven lost his family because of his parent's obsession with a Pokemon. Kieren went insane because of his obsession with a Pokemon. Geeta would have let Paradox mons destroy Paldea because she was too busy organizing Pokemon battles to actually keep the region safe.

You can make a couple of them normal, and the other two make them fall into the hypnoray. Say, wannabe saiyan and dress girl. They can be affected by the mind swipe. Meanwhile, the scientist and the thug is following the team by different reasons. The thug is just a bully who wants money, and the scientist is a guy who is working on a thesis about Pokémon psychology. Following one who wants to take over the world is a golden opportunity. It means Pokémon can also have secrets, desires, and aspirations.

I did some editing of our other wonderful render artist's work after doing some pretty stressful story-editing. It felt only appropriately inappropriate to bring the pillow case out after that.

In universe it can make a lot of sense that a trainer would specialize in a certain type because they know how to raise them.

Even his "Special Attackers" are Physical Attackers. PTU allows you to really modify your Pokémon, With the Attack Ace class, Pokémon get an extra +11 to their base attack stat.

hasn't been an issue yet. Attack Ace also eventually grants the ability to deal a tenth of the target's max HP, after damage. and his Hunter Class lets his Pokémon deal another 10th (with a special attack called Pack Hunt) if an ally hits with a melee attack as many times per round as possible. I don't know how I'm going to portray that in the story yet.

However potent an attack normally is, Luke's intense training regiment has amplified it to bring out the most amount of energy possible. Instead of whipping an enemy with a slender vine, they're being lashed by a thin tree trunk. It's not just a Karate Chop, it's a blow so fierce that the newtons travel through the opponent's body and drive fault lines into the ground beneath their feet.
Pair that up with some well-honed teamwork and not very effective or otherwise, few things could ever go more than five rounds against that kind of intensity.

I like these.

I'm mostly trying to figure out how best to portray Pack Hunt specifically. Especially because Suzi and Nox do ranged stuff more often than not and caused Luke to have to double battle to really get the most out of his class, and if written poorly it could come off as Luke just being a dick. Which I suppose isn't the end of the world.

I'm thinking of just saying his two Pokémon are so well trained they attack with well coordinated strikes. Each hit opening the target up to be hit again. Which each pokemon would take advantage of.

I think my big fear is that he comes off as unlikable because of his battle Style.

Depends on how you explain it. Considering Luke is focused on frontal combat, it's not weird seeing the tank being cocky, or even complaining that his team leaves him to take the hard hits first.
As for his allies, since they fight from afar, which kind of support they give? Is Suzi a healer and Nox a buffer? Or does any of them know ranged attacks? Do someone prefers surrounding the enemy from far to attack from the rear, undefended?
Let's say they find an Alpha Ursaring or a Copperajah. How the battle would go?

My OC is named Mio and he's literally just Elio from S/M with some changes.
Picked the name Mio from a movie before I knew his official name was Elio and am too lazy to change it or try to be more original.
I had a character from Emerald through to Y that I headcannoned as being the same guy in every game, then with Moon I decided he was Mio's dad, so he inherited a bunch of Pokemon (my headcannon explanation for transferring a ton of pokes to him).
He wants to be a poke-zoologist and catch 'em all and will travel the world surfing and studying pokemon.
Kinda boring but that's it.
Also the Ultra Wormholes are a good excuse for bullshit like soul transferrence between parallel versions of himself in alternate universes, but he's not like some planeswalker. He doesn't really know what's happening.

Their’s a special Officer Jenny group that actively culling some kinds of Pokémon. Each region has a Pokemon they cull or are actively trying to get rid of. For trainers who have said Pokemon, they give a special license and test to see their character in order to keep it.

Taking another break to show another trainer card. This time of Zatch’s Father. He switches his team around frequently due to entering tournaments with his wife, but his ace and childhood starter Vileplume never leaves his team.

Even after the destruction of their plantation in both Johto and Unova thanks to Clair, he still enters tournaments to build up money and is planning on revenge himself.

Originally he is yes! He’s collected a lot of different kinds, but Gen 2 ones are the most familiar to him. He was born on the Johto plantation but visited the Unova plantation frequently where he met his wife in their youth and was quite friendly with the chief.

He’ll show up a bunch in the story but will have different Pokemon he’ll cycle through.

The Johto Plantation was on an VERY off beaten path in Ilex forest, while the main one was in Unova deep in White Forest. Both are in fact wiped out due to Clair’s actions but as the story goes on things will get better for them.

To put it simply, Clair just took things too far in Johto due to anger and Lance covered things up further. While Clair DID apologize and wanted to make amends, no one bought it due to Lance doing the talking and the 2 coming right when they had buried and paid respects to the Johto Chief. They offered to help rebuild but the survivors were too scared and fiercely rejected due to Lance’s wording. Add in the fact Black City replaced White Forest here quickly after Dragon Tamers under Clair attacked and destroyed the place…..Yeah….

Clair though is NOT a psychopath, just got extremely angry after a brutal loss……but who to say something ELSE wasn’t up with Clair before the attack when down and painted this Tsundere as a villain back then?

Porygon2, Scizor, Haxorus, Lickilicky, Unfezant and Golisopod.
All Pokémon who either once stood as powerful picks in OU for the longest time or even a single generation, or never reached that pinnacle at all.

Despite their undying loyalty to ****, it seems that their trainer's misguided path has unintentionally influenced them to become a lot more ruthless. even going so far as to employ underhanded tactics in battle that would make a dark type blush.
This render didn't turn out nearly as well as I would have liked, but hey. You get a new tune out of it.

Well, to finally get around to answering my own question, Hasumi is fluent in American, English and also French, with some inclinations in Spanish and Latin. Attempts were made towards Japanese, but the less said about that, the better.
Of the fluent ones, the latter two were picked up almost exclusively via literature (and clothing stores), Latin as a side gig for a few books, and Spanish during her stay in Paldea.

I mostly imagine her speaking in an informal, Texan-like manner, which honestly I'm all for. It would contrast really well with Hasumi's more eccentric, romantic mannerisms, which is why I can see it working out well from a creationist standpoint.

Interesting choices. From the description I would assume that Porygon gets up to some annoying Trace Bullshit. Having two First Impression users sounds interesting. I would recommend replacing Lickylicky with Diggersby and Unfezant with Staraptor. The latter is a much stronger contender for the token regional shitbird and the former keeps keeps the “token weirdo” trope without looking super out of place, and Huge Power along with it’s much better typing also makes this guy’s matchup better into several threats. Is this guy’s name actually four letters though?

I don’t often listen to stuff while I’m writing but one of my favorite albums was a major inspiration for the novella that I’m currently writing (it’s stuck in development hell so I’m writing a collection of four to three (one of them might get axed) short stories)

It really depends on the tone of the scene that I want to convey. Instrumentals are a must usually, especially if I'm writing dry. Quiet jazzy music for calm scenes, anything with a steady tempo to create a sense of urgency. If you already envisioned the scene and acted it out in a fantasy, then you should be able to "dub" it over with a particular song and then listen to it as you're typing it out to help capture the feelings.
Most recently, the soundtrack for Halo ODST has had a huge influence in my current episode that tragically is getting longer by the day. The soundtrack as a whole has a strong rhythmic structure of introduction, rising action, falling action, rest, repeat, climax that works well for what I do without ever being distracting.

Put another way, if an author does a poor job of conveying their message, the audience gets to decide on a new message. A good example would be the Barbie movie becoming a massive win for guys because the writers flubbed their misandrist script and I absolutely nailed my role as Ken.

In some cases yes, but sometimes it's the picture being squished down to less than half the size to fit on a single page of a google doc. So going forward I will just apply links that can be clicked through by clicking on the image like with the music links on pictures for the full res. But I'm not gonna do it for the previous pictures cause I am lazy.

Your example is more about a narrative meaning rather than a mental visualization of a scene kind of meaning though. A consistent mental image of WHAT is in front of the character in the scene and WHAT exactly is happening alongside my word is very important to me. It became one of my main stickler points over my years of story RPing with people.

Unfortunately a lot of the fight scenes will just be general references of what kind of moves she's making for certain things. Otherwise I can't really do action shots, AI SUCKS at complex/unrealistic in-the-moment action. Either that or I have no idea how to use my words to make it come out as I want it to.

I could actually probably finish this tommorow, but I always like to give myself leeway so if life happens then I can just get it out on Saturday instead and still meet a goal of getting it out this week. I generally do that, but some things still seem to get lost in people's interpretation even when it's explained clearly. So I just use my words AND an image if I can find one to ensure it's interpreted correctly.

Well for starters you’re right about it being hard-coded. So far the tests ones have been about 1or 2 outta 4 pics using what they deem ‘safe’. What I’m aiming for is a 4 out of 4 without the light effect but only using as minimal words as possible.

For example It’ll do one pic just fine if I use something like ‘Pokeball with low lighting at night’ but add in other stuff cause again, they’re trying to cover their asses.

I’d show pics but I ain’t half assing stuff to give people hope like that. I’m not capping you though when I’m saying I’m working on it and it’s just a damn slow process.
