Literally just bring back the popular mons from Ash's reserves, with maybe few surprise appearances.
Ash had 25 years worth of Pokemon in box, with plenty of memorable, liked by multiple generations of kids and powerful ones being there. There was absolutely no reason to give him new team of literally whos This entire arc should be "The Best of Ash" with multiple reappearing pokemon and callouts to older battles.

I mean they could have done that but with only 6 team slots for the final, they would have to do a lot of switching Ash's party around to have all of the fan favorite team members get their time in the spotlight.

Nah, Leon should have been the way it was: a brand new team + Pikachu to represent this new season. However, I agree. There should have been more past Pokémon being rotated to the main team throughout the seasons.

So fucking what? This is exactly what they should have done. Ash has traveled the world and collected excellent pokemon from basically every region. This last championship should have been Ash showing off the culmination of his years of training showcasing his wealth of battle experience and vast pokemon knowledge. We should have seen him be the very best like no one ever was. It isn't like they don't have the money to pull it off.
