About to do a bug-only USUM run.
What pokemon should I use for my starter? I'll use universal randomizer to replace Popplio.
I was in between Heracross and Scyther.

I choose them because they aren't available until way too fucking late. Venipede is available pretty early iirc or I might be mixing it with regular sun/moon. Yanma is a solid idea.

Those Pokemon have 500BST, you'll be bored to tears in the early game for how powerful they are. Karrablast, Grubbin, Yanma, Dwebble, or even Caterpie would be better choices.

That's 30 less than starters.
I don't know why people are pretending starters aren't strong as fuck compared to most early game mons. That's the entire point of them.

Starters have BSTs around 530 or so when fully evolved, anon. OP is talking about beginning the game with a Heracross (a mon with 125 base ATK)

Araquanid? I used one and it was a lot of fun. The type matchups are slightly rough for the E4, but otherwise it does good work.

Monobug for gen 7 is really not that bad, early game is fine with caterpie, grubbin, and cutiefly and pretty early on you can araquanid who is godlike in casual play. If you really want easy mode you even have volcarona as an option not too far into the run, but even then you get enough other good options, especially in the late game, that this isn't necessary. Bug will always be the "shit" type by design but by games like gen 5 which went apeshit with the type they knew how to design them to function in casual play. Gen 4 and options like kricketue and wormadam were the last time you really just only had shit available to you.
