>>56250258Turtwig as a line is an excellent example of making engaging and interesting designs from a simple concept. There's a ton of "animal+element" pokemon, but the Turtwig line keeps things interesting with the development of it's single twig with leaves to a grotto, and then a mountainous forest. It remains readily identifiable as a turtle while also retaining the charm of a fantasy monster, a point further helped by incorporating different traits from different turtle types, especially with Torterra and its meiolaniid aspects. The names are simple but good portmanteaus, something that a child can easily remember. The world-turtle inspiration is appreciated too, differentiating it from the other sinnoh starters that are based on specific characters/people. With all the shill jobmons we've been getting for starters as of late, a simple well-executed monster with multiple points of inspiration makes the Turtwig line iconic.
