For one, you're going to have other Mon on the team to cover its main weaknesses, for another it only lags behind Butterfree in terms of Sp.Atk (and Sp.Def prior to Gen VI). It has access to X-Scissor and Leaf Blade, slap Swords Dance on it and it'll fuck shit up.
The 4x weakness to Fire and Flying sucks but why the hell would you use a bug type against them anyway? Any other matching and Leavanny clears Butterfree (even Fighting since Butterfree is 4x to rock and every Fighting type and its brother has access to either Rock Slide or Stone Edge)
