You can argue it’s better than the other sets, but it’s still better in a different way than just “hurr I do the same thing with higher base stats”. So I’ll never decry Mega Chomp as outright worthless, it’s just another set an already useful Pokemon can run. Unfortunately, by virtue of Pokemon most deserving of mega evolutions being the ones who also need a buff, they almost all end up being nothing more than numerical buffs, and because most shillmons of the day were already good their respective megas were incredibly busted and overshadowed their peers. Add to that the one Mega per team rule and the whole thing ends up a fucking mess. Absol’s mega is the buff it sorely needed but why would you ever run it? Or Mega Banette? I’ve come to terms with the fact meta evolution is the coolest generational gimmick and also the worst.
