playing through SV was the most fun I had playing through a mainline Pokemon game since like Gen 3. it's a testament to how absolutely dogshit the last few generations have been that an N64 looking technical dumpster fire of a game managed to mog them while barely even being playable at times.

gen 9's aggressive streamlining of getting into multiplayer was also really welcome

I don't know how you can look at PLA and SV and not realize this is the best position the franchise has been in since at least 10 years.

The dream of a fully realized open world game with Pokemon roaming around all over the place finally came true... even if it was really rough around the edges. Now it's just a matter of polishing that.

Romhacks will continue in the mean time. With varying degree of quality but gems will still appear.

Someone will eventually make a fan game built off of Colluseum or Gale of Darkness that will be everything we dream of one day.

The game barely works. It runs at literal single digit FPS in some areas. I cannot stress this enough. The game was shipped to us actually broken. Have we forgotten so soon? For that reason alone it's the number one worst Pokemon game of all time.
If the game actually worked maybe it would be good. I'm glad it feels ambitious, but GF clearly lacks the talent and resources to execute it.

The series has got gradually worse as the platforms the games have released on have got easier and easier to develop for. Gen 1 and 2 had to be coded in Assembly, and the GBA/DS Gens probably had some Assembly optimizations too. Since they went to Switch, they've been making games for Android Tablet hardware. So no, that's not a thing, the directors and game designers are just exercising no discretion and the projects are a bloated mess that couldn't be good on any hardware.
