What made Pokemon world back in the day was that it was vague enough that you could project whatever you wanted onto it. Your imagination made it into more than it actually was.

Now it's too detailed for that, but there's also not enough there for it to be interesting in its own right. The worst of both worlds. Pokemon was better when it allowed you to fill in the blanks with your imagination.
