Shinies in Gen 2 were determined by a formula to offset given colors. Stadium 2 didn't have the means to apply the same code as so implemented a crude replication of it, thus all the weird looking pokemon.

It's just such a shame you need to have your pokemon be at 2/3 MAX what it could be to be a shiny in this gen/game.

I had a shiny onix which I traded for a Steelix which looked so cool on Stadium 2. I didn't get any other shinies besides Gyarados, and it's just such a shame that they all look like shit besides maybe the Scyther, and maybe Cyndaquil.
