I'm actually really interested in the changes LAWDS made to fields, there's a lot of new ways to change fields it seems and even mediocre items that were extremely niche or useless before now have interactions on certain fields as well to make a lot of new strategies viable, imaginable that, someone actually grasping the good aspects of fields and not just making them arbitrarily shitty and uninteractive.

The ultimate problem with this entire line of thinking imo is that any mon can setup sweep with the right setup and there's functionally not much difference between how dead you are against a +2/+2 Mega Gyarados or a Shell Smash+White Herb'd mon in the sense that if you don't have a very specific out, it'll probably clean the whole team.
I think the biggest value early megas, especially with a controlled distribution and the addition of fanmegas to the mix is that they encourage you to build teams around mons you may not necessarily use without actually taking away options from you. Rebornlikes make you use weirdmons or shitmons by removing options until they're the best thing left, whereas this type of design aims to encourage similar of you giving, say, Mega Audino or a fanmade Mega Ariados a go with a carrot and not a stick. I personally prefer the latter approach to game design.
Boss trainers can still be made hard with creative teambuilding or even just leveraging item availability quantity asymmetry (you only have 1-2 Leftovers or choice items but they can have multiple scarfers for instance) without being outright unfair or using tools you just flat out don't have yourself.
