>>56269327people get really fucking angry with me whenever I say this, but fuck it, we're doing unpopular, so I'll do my really unpopular one; Gen 8 is the best generation.
Sword and Shield:
This game IMHO has the best blend of the linear maps of the past and the expanded freedom of the open world that the future held. The story wasn't too great, but Hop and Bede are some of the most interesting characters out there, with a whole theming of "your original dream might not work, but you'll find a dream you'll cherish even more.", which I just adore. Dynamax, while a bit scuffed for pvp, was absolutely stellar as a story mode mechanic (only being beaten out by Z-Moves), and the pokedex is completely filled with bangers. Also, Pokemon Camp exists, and that side mode is just perfection. only thing I wish they would of added is the ability to pet pokemon.
Legends Arceus:
THE VIBES. This game is genuinely the prettiest pokemon game I've played. It might be coincidental, but the way everything is done makes it feel like an old painting. The monster-hunter-esque habitats felt perfect for pokemon, and I wish it's how scarlet and violet and other games in the future will handle it. The boss fights actually felt engaging to do, and the battle system is super fun. It's also cool to just fly about with braviary and it's the first game in the series to me where completing the pokedex actually feels super rewarding.
BDSP:
Imma be real, I mostly agree with you guys, but having the ability to go through gen 4 without the need of designated HM pokemon felt absolutely beautiful. I could finally be free with my pokemon choices in pearl, so I got to pick all of my silly goobers.
..also, it added the sinnoh underground to my switch. I can't complain about that, the sinnoh underground in of itself could be a fully fledged game and I'd buy it, it's that fun.
oh, and tierno doesn't get the respect he deserves. FREE HEART SCALES IS AMAZING.
