ngl my favorite fairies are literally only grandfathered ones.
Clefable, Wigglytuff, Togekiss, Azumarill.... and the only exception is Mimikyu, maybe Magearna too but that has fuck all to do with being a Fairy and it's more about being a cool mech bunny

Looking from a purely gameplay perspective probably to help out all the grass and psychic fairy dual types, without that resistance grass would have yet another dual typing with 2 quad weaknesses. If you want lore reasons you can picj connection with nature or the fact that they can kill fucking dragons so a bug wouldn't be much at all to them.
